“O We Give Thanks.” Our annual Thanksgiving service of story and song. We’ll give thanks for the gifts we have received and the gifts we are able to share. Children are welcome to join us for the full service; childcare will also be provided. Reverend Celie Katovitch
Drop-in Discussion: The Interfaith Alliance of Rochester. Becky Elwell is president of the Interfaith Alliance of Rochester, an advocacy group that campaigns for social justice. In an op-ed article in the D&C recently, she wrote about unjust treatment of children and the poor by our local government. She will lead a discussion on how we can do better.

Travel-size Toilletries Needed
|
Do you have a collection of toiletries from hotel stays? Would you be willing to donate some to the emergency shelter now being prepared for the chronically homeless? The REACH House (Rochester Emergency Action Committee for the Homeless) urgently needs travel-size shampoos, conditioners, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar soaps, lotions, tissue packets, combs and brushes. Please leave what you can in the REACH box in the Clara Barton Lounge any Sunday this month. Thanks!

This year, First Universalist of Rochester will be participating in
ROC the Day
on December 1st ("Giving Tuesday"). ROC the Day is a 24-hour, online event that provides people an opportunity to support non-for-profit organizations doing great work in the Rochester community,
including First Universalist
. You can help us by getting the word out!

COMPASSION MEDITATION GROUP: This informal exploration of compassion through meditation and other UU spiritual practices will be held for three Wednesdays leading up to the holidays - Nov. 11, Nov. 18, & Nov. 25, at 5:00 in the Sanctuary. No RSVP required, but you are welcome to e-mail Rev. Celie to let her know you'll be coming (minister@uuroc.org). No prior meditation experience required.
THANKSGIVING SERVICE: This year's Rochester Union Thanksgiving Service
will be held at at Temple Sinai, 363 Penfield Road, at 11:00 on Thanksgiving Day. Rev. Celie will preach the sermon. The service is a tradition dating back more than 140 years, and is the longest-running interfaith collaboration of its kind in the country.
COZY NIGHT SUPPER: “Share the Wonder” at our Friday, November 27th COZY NIGHT SUPPER. This program, from 5:30 to 7:30, is the beginning of our exploration of the Unitarian Universalist sources. Consider adding this to your Thanksgiving weekend plans and let us know of your ability to attend by signing up at the Membership Table after the service or contacting Kathy Russell krussel6@frontiernet.net so we can plan appropriately. Child-friendly activities exploring this source will be arranged if requested one week in advance. And for those who like to plan ahead… Future Cozy Friday Night Supper dates exploring other sources are January 15th, February 26th and March 18th.
BOOK CLUB: Join us on Sunday, November 29th at 12 noon in the Adult Lounge to discuss the book The Age of Miracles, by Karen Thompson Walker. All are welcome! See or e-mail Sarah Singal (ssingal@rochester.rr.com) or Shirley Bond (bondshirl@yahoo.com).
HAVE YOU NOTICED OUR NEW NAME TAGS? The Membership Committee is in the process of replacing the badge holders on a string with ones that clip on. The beautiful calligraphy on the tags is being done by Joy Lecesse and Kitty Forbush. We will be removing the old name tags from the holder during November. If you have not received your new one yet, please add your name to the “Make me a new name tag” list that is on the Greeter Table in the Clara Barton Lounge. If you’d like to keep your old one, please take it home with you. Thank you.
ANNUAL TREASURER'S REPORT:
Is our church spending wisely? Are we fiscally healthy? How are we doing with our social justice plate offerings? Answers to these and other questions can be found in the Annual Treasurer's Report! Copies are now available in the Clara Barton lounge, or can be obtained electronically from finance chair Ann Rhody at
annrhody@gmail.com
.
MEMBERSHIP AT FIRST UNIVERSALIST
is always possible. If you feel that you have found a spiritual home here with us, contact Reverend Celie (
minister@uuroc.org
) or Nancy Gaede (
flower50@frontiernet.net
) and we will make arrangements for you to sign the membership book. On Saturday, April 9, we will hold a Path to Membership class that we hope all new members and those considering membership will attend. On Sunday, April 10, we will welcome all new members during the church service.
WORKING TVs WANTED:
Do you have a working TV that you could donate to First Universalist's RAIHN program? Our RAIHN guests appreciate having the privacy of their own rooms, and a TV in their room can go a long way in making them feel at home, especially if they have young children who go to bed early. If you can help, please let Marti Eggers or Sarah Singal know. Thanks so much!
"I'M NOT RACIST... AM I?" http://www.notracistmovie.com/ The
