This Week at First Universalist
November 16, 2015
This Week's Service
“O We Give Thanks.”  Our annual Thanksgiving service of story and song. We’ll give thanks for the gifts we have received and the gifts we are able to share. Children are welcome to join us for the full service; childcare will also be provided. Reverend Celie Katovitch

Drop-in Discussion:  The Interfaith Alliance of Rochester.  Becky Elwell is president of the Interfaith Alliance of Rochester, an advocacy group that campaigns for social justice. In an op-ed article in the D&C recently, she wrote about unjust treatment of children and the poor by our local government. She will lead a discussion on how we can do better.

It's almost here!  The Holiday Shoppe will be open in the Clara Barton Lounge following Sunday Services, November 22 through December 20.  We are seeking donations of new gift items to sell.  We welcome crafts,  "re-gifts,"   baked goods,  and any gift items which can be sold for under $20.  No "garage sale" items,  please.  Contact Paula Marchese at for more information.
New to First Universalist?
On Sunday, November 22, plan to join Reverend Celie and folks from the Membership Committee to view and discuss a video presentation about the First Universalist Church.  We’ll meet in the second floor Adult Lounge from 11:45 - 12:15.  We look forward to getting to know you better!
Travel-size Toilletries Needed
Do you have a collection of toiletries from hotel stays?  Would you be willing to donate some to the emergency shelter now being prepared for the chronically homeless? The REACH House (Rochester Emergency Action Committee for the Homeless) urgently needs travel-size shampoos, conditioners, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar soaps, lotions, tissue packets, combs and brushes.  Please leave what you can in the REACH box in the Clara Barton Lounge any Sunday this month.  Thanks!

HAVE YOU NOTICED OUR NEW NAME TAGS?  The Membership Committee is in the process of replacing the badge holders on a string with ones that clip on.  The beautiful calligraphy on the tags is being done by Joy Lecesse and Kitty Forbush.  We will be removing the old name tags from the holder during November.  If you have not received your new one yet, please add your name to the “Make me a new name tag” list that is on the Greeter Table in the Clara Barton Lounge.  If you’d like to keep your old one, please take it home with you.  Thank you.

ANNUAL TREASURER'S REPORT:   Is our church spending wisely?  Are we fiscally healthy?  How are we doing with our social justice plate offerings?   Answers to these and other questions can be found in the Annual Treasurer's Report!  Copies are now available in the Clara Barton lounge,  or can be obtained electronically from finance chair Ann Rhody at .

MEMBERSHIP AT FIRST UNIVERSALIST  is always possible.  If you feel that you have found a spiritual home here with us, contact Reverend Celie ( ) or Nancy Gaede ( ) and we will make arrangements for you to sign the membership book.  On Saturday, April 9, we will hold a Path to Membership class that we hope all new members and those considering membership will attend.  On Sunday, April 10, we will welcome all new members during the church service.

WORKING TVs WANTED: Do you have a working TV that you could donate to First Universalist's RAIHN program?  Our RAIHN guests appreciate having the privacy of their own rooms, and a TV in their room can go a long way in making them feel at home, especially if they have young children who go to bed early.  If you can help, please let Marti Eggers or Sarah Singal know.  Thanks so much!
