Thinking of volunteering for RAIHN? Learn how you can join with other church members to help some temporarily homeless families get back on their feet. Attend the next RAIHN* training session for new volunteers on Tuesday, October 13, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4115 Dewey Ave., Rochester.
The session will cover how RAIHN works, why it’s needed, who are the families we serve, and what you need to know to volunteer.
Once trained, consider volunteering for a spot during our next host week, January 3-10, and you will be giving some homeless Rochester families a wonderful gift.

Bread Sunday
The breaking of bread together has from time immemorial symbolized a bond of friendship and peace among the participants. We will share bread with each other in our annual observation of Bread Sunday on Sunday, October 18.
Members and friends are invited to bring bread for sharing for coffee hour following our regular Sunday service. Please let Bill Elwell know if you will bring an offering of bread.

The film
Not My Life
, a documentary by Academy Award nominee Robert Bilheimer about human trafficking, will be screened at First Universalist Church on Sunday, October 18 at 6:30 PM, with a discussion to follow.
Filmed on five continents, in a dozen countries,
Not My Life
takes viewers into an astonishing array of how children are exploited. Filmmaker Bilheimer says, “Human traffickers are earning billions of dollars on the backs and beds of children, and yet no one knows this is happening.”
There is no entrée fee, but any donations will be forwarded to the Not My Life Human Trafficking Awareness Action Center (notmylifeactioncenter.com).

The 2015 Fall Clean-up Day has been scheduled for Saturday, October 17th, starting around 9:00 AM. If you have ever wanted to volunteer for the church or to just get to know the building as well as other members a little better, this is a perfect opportunity! There will be all kinds of cleaning, fixing, painting, etc. jobs to be completed – something for all skill levels. Bring along your favorite tools or cleaning products. Breakfast snacks and a light lunch will be provided. Socializing and fun will also be part of the agenda. Our 20th season of Eastman at Washington Square concerts opens on Thursday, October 15, beginning at 12:15 in the sanctuary.
Eastman at Washington Square Concerts feature students, faculty and friends of the Eastman School of Music, and are jointly produced by the Eastman Community Music School and First Universalist Church. The concerts are intended to last about 30-40 minutes, and are offered every Thursday from mid-October until the beginning of June, excepting holidays.

Harvesting Justice Symposium, Reception & Dinner. Join us at Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, NY 14618 Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015. First Universalist is represented on R&MM’s Board. We are forming a UU table to lend our voice to advocate for those who, in spite of harsh working conditions, bring food to our tables. Friday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m. Join John Akers and Rev. Celie for an uplifting evening service of singing and sharing. Come to light a candle, place a stone, voice prayers, sorrows, and gratitudes, and most of all, to have your heart lifted by song.

CHANGE IS COMING!! Grab that old jar of loose change and bring those quarters, dimes, and other coins to church on November 1 & 8. We’ll pool our change and help to support our church’s programs, both within our walls and out in the community. Watch for the change collection table in the Clara Barton Lounge.
RAIHN TRAINING SESSION - LEVEL 2:
A second level training for experienced volunteers is planned for Wednesday, November 4, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 25 Church St., Pittsford.
