10:30 a.m. Service:  Interfaith DialogueGuest speaker Dr. Muhammad Shafiq, Professor of Religious Studies, is the Executive Director of the Hickey Center for Interfaith Studies and Dialogue at Nazareth College. The Hickey Center encourages strategies for living peacefully in a religiously diverse world. Dr. Sharif has written and taught widely on the topic of interfaith dialogue.

9:15 a.m. Drop-in Discussion:  Understanding Poverty.  Kate Fleury will review and discuss A Framework for Understanding Poverty by Ruby K. Payne.  She writes about survival tactics of generationally poor people and how this differs from survival tactics of the middle class and the wealthy. 
Upcoming Events
Youth Group & Bridging Group to Start

We are so excited to start our Youth Group and Bridging Group! Our Youth Group will be for 9th-12th graders (or home school equivalent) and aim to meet about two times per month. The next meeting will take place Sunday, November 6.

The Bridging Group will support High School Seniors (or equivalent) ages 17/18 through Young Adults 20yrs old or younger. It will use a Small Group Ministries format looking at life transition topics relevant to the group, and will also aim to meet two times per month.  First meeting will take place Sunday, October 30.

Groups will meet Sundays from 12-1:30pm

Practices for Intercultural Diversity- Regional Leadership Conference

Young Adult Gathering - Nov. 13
We are noticing a critical mass of young adults (18-35 yrs old) in our congregation!  We would love to support a Young Adult group, events, or other connections. Let's gather to meet & greet, and consider what you might be looking for in a Young Adult community within our congregation. Please join us after service on November 13th or contact Rev. Celie & Rev. SMALL GROUP MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY:   Want to explore your spiritual life in a small group setting (of about eight people), led by a trained facilitator? There are several opportunities to join a Small Group.  Please visit  http://www.uuroc.org/small-groups  for details and to sign-up.  Questions?  Contact Connie Valk at  cvalk@frontiernet.net .  


RACE TO JUSTICE:  This transformative education course, invites groups of approximately 10 people who will meet throughout the church year to explore the deep issues related to racial justice and living into multicultural Beloved Community. Our groups have already begun, but  there is still room in the Thursday group . Please contact our facilitators, Rev. Michelle Yates and Suzie Gutierrez at  office@uuroc.org  if you are interested. The first three sessions are bi-weekly, after which the frequency of meeting through the year will be determined by the group. Next scheduled meetings:
  • Thursday Group: 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 27th and Nov. 10th
  • Tuesday Group: 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Nov. 1st and Nov. 15th

BOOK GROUP: The Book Group will meet Sunday, October 30th at noon in the Chalice Room to discuss All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. All are welcome. November's book club selection is called  Queen of the Fall  by Sonja Livingston. Sonja is a local author and writes about her experiences growing up in Rochester. She writes in a poetic and meaningful way. MESSAGE FOR ALL AGES WORKSHOP: Do you enjoy the MFAA part of our service? Have you ever thought, "That looks like fun! I could do that!" If so, please contact Rev. Michelle Yates at office@uuroc.org or come to this workshop on November 20th after the service. We'll talk about the technical and creative elements of sharing a story for MFAA.


BEGINNING MEDITATION:   Join us each Wednesday through November 16th from 5:30-6:30pm in the rear of the sanctuary (doors will be open 5:15-5:30).
