Tuesday, August 6 | Drop-In Discussion: How Diverse Are We?
We proclaim diversity but how diverse are we really these days? Sunday mornings have been described as the most segregated hour in America and this may be true about our Sunday services as well. If so, aren’t we being arrogant when claiming diversity as one of our virtues? William Elwell will present and lead our discussion. Drop-in Discussions meet via Zoom on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!
Thursday, August 8 | Hybrid Self-Compassion Workshop
Many people struggle with being hard on themselves, especially if they grew up in conservative religious or authoritarian environments. Learning about self-compassion can help them become more resilient, improve relationships, and be kinder to themselves and others. Participants in this workshop will learn about what self-compassion is (and what it's not) and gain practical tools for practicing it. The workshop will be held from 7-8:30pm in the Clara Barton Lounge (and online) and led by Susanna Guarino, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who specializes in working with individuals and couples with religious trauma.

Postcard Writing for the Election
Would you like to join First Universalist for postcard writing in preparation for the upcoming election? We will host ongoing postcard writing sessions on the first and third Sundays through October. Feel free to take the postcards home or stay and write them in the Clara Barton Lounge after Sunday Services on August 4 and 18, September 1 and 15, and October 6 and 20. The Center for Common Ground, a non-partisan organization based in Virginia, is sending postcards to Black and Indigenous people of color throughout the country to encourage them to vote. We provide the addresses, text, and stamps for the postcards. Every vote counts in this crucial election! Questions? Contact Barb Brody. Thank you for considering joining us in this important effort!
