10:30am Sunday Service: The Both/And of In-Between

Queer theology and queer theory invite us to break down binaries and explore what can be learned from both/and thinking. In-betweenness encourages us to live between seeming opposites or even between one thing and another. The spiritual gifts of embracing a queer ethic can help us to be more comfortable living in-between.

Speaker: Rev. Lane-Mairead Campbell

Masking in the First Universalist church building is optional, please respect any distancing requests.

Stewardship 2024: Dream Project A Great Success!

Check out the Stewardship bulletin board in the Clara Barton Lounge to see some specific ideas for our church’s future. Please plan to attend the extended church service on March 24 to hear more about our dreams and our church finances as the formal Stewardship Campaign begins.

Tuesday, March 5 | Drop-In Discussion: Controversial Bible Verses Part 1, Genesis

Rev. Michelle Yates will lead a discussion taken from a list of "21 Controversial Bible Verses.” We will look at verses from Genesis, particularly from Creation to the Flood. Bring your questions and observations regarding the text and its context within history, culture, theology, and more. Drop-in Discussions meet via Zoom on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!

March 17 | Social Justice Plate: Girls Rock! Rochester

Our March Offering will be donated to Girls Rock! Rochester. They are a non-profit dedicated to using music as a vehicle for personal growth and positive change for girls, women, and the LGBTQIA+ community. They offer programs year-round for girls, teens, and young adults to teach constructive ways to fight sexism and foster healthy mindsets and social skills. These young people are part of our future generation of leaders and artists. Please give generously to support their journey.

March 17, 18, & 22 | EcoJustice: “The Week”

EcoJustice is participating in The Week, showing three inspiring videos followed by discussion, exploring what is happening to our ecosystem, and what we can do about it. Check out theweek.ooo. We will meet in the Clara Barton Lounge, from 2:30-4pm. If you would like to join us, please let Howard Spindler or Vicki Venn know.

Friday, March 29 | Tenebrae Service

Our three UU congregations of the Greater Rochester Area will join for a service of mourning, remembering, and holding silence 7pm at First Universalist and online. This service honors the moment when Jesus of Nazareth died on the cross, honors the grief that the disciples felt, and gives us an opportunity to give voice to our own sense of loss. Tenebrae will be a quiet and contemplative service. Service link can be found on the uuroc.org homepage.

Housing For All Interest Form!

Recently we asked you to fill out a checklist of proposed projects for Housing For All. If you missed it, we still want to know your interests! Please pick up a paper copy of the list titled “Group Projects - Interest Areas” at either entrance to the sanctuary, fill it out and leave it in the box at the front of the sanctuary. Or fill out the online form here. This is to indicate interest, not a commitment. We want to hear from you, whether you’re a long-time member or new to the church. Questions? Ask Marti Eggers or Chris DeGolyer.
