10:30am Sunday Service | Devotion to Unitarian Universalism
Devotion is work, it's a practice, it's considering something larger than ourselves consistently in our lives, in our days, in our waking moments. What does a practice of devotion look like for Unitarian Universalists? To what is this faith devoted?
Speaker: Rev. Lane Campbell

9:15am Drop-in Discussion: Racism’s Local Face
Each Sunday in the Chalice Room (second floor).
A wide-ranging discussion of local and timely topics—i.e. police accountability, Rochester City School District budget cuts, recent passage of county-wide “annoyance laws”, the school-to-prison pipeline, food deserts, global warming’s effects on city populations, etc. How can we help address racial inequities—as individuals and as a progressive church? We’ll brainstorm about policies, procedures, and possibilities. Led by Elizabeth Osta, Theo Munson and the FIRE Project Team (First Universalist Initiative for Racial Equity).
Upcoming Events & Additional Announcements
Thursday, Jan. 9 | Eastman at Washington Square
Eastman at Washington Square Concerts take place on Thursdays at 12:15 to 12:45pm in our sanctuary. January 9 is " Faculty Showcase I": Don’t miss the opportunity to hear wonderful ECMS faculty members in recital, presenting various styles of music. Admission is free! Bring your brown bag lunch and join us.

Saturday, Jan. 11 | Path To Membership
If you are considering membership at this time, there will be a Path to Membership class held on Saturday, January 11 from 9 am to noon. During this class you will have an opportunity to meet others considering membership, discuss Unitarian Universalism more in depth, and have time to find out more about what membership means. Child care will be available upon request, with a week's notice. A brunch will be served mid-morning. Please let Rev. Lane know if you are planning to come, or email our office administrator at office@uuroc.org!

Sunday, Jan. 19 | Social Justice Plate: REACH Advocacy
Our SJP this month will be for REACH Advocacy. REACH advocates for the chronically homeless in our area and tries to make sure they are treated fairly. There is a huge lack of affordable housing in Rochester. With that in mind, two years ago REACH decided to begin the process of getting involved in the "Tiny Home Village" project that is popping up around the country. The REACH folks have started the process but the immediate need for shelter in the winter is important too. Please be as generous as you see fit on January 19 as the offering basket passes by.

As a social justice project, our children voted to create Dignity Bags for those released from the Batavia Detention Center. They will assemble these bags at a Family Night in January, but are asking for content donations until then. Items can be left in the food collection baskets in the sanctuary.

Sunday, Feb. 2 | Annual Service Auction
What’s so great about Feb. 2, 2020? Hint: it’s got nothing to do with a groundhog. It’s the date of our annual Service Auction! As you prepare for the holidays, don’t forget to give some thought to what you might like to donate, or how you might want to participate. It’s a fun and fabulous time, and there’s something for everyone!

Service Auction 2020: Donations Now Being Accepted!
Donations are being accepted on the church website at uuroc.org (preferred method), or by hard copy with forms available at church. Donations must be received by Wednesday, January 22 to be included in the auction booklet. Wondering what to donate? Services, social events, food, and unique items are big sellers. The service auction isn’t a good place for “garage sale” donations. If you have questions about potential donation items, please contact Katherine Flynn at kmcmfly@yahoo.com or Paula Marchese at pemarche35@gmail.com. Want to help? Watch for volunteer sign-ups during coffee hour in the next few weeks!

Feb. 9-16 | Sign Up for RAIHN Week!
During RAIHN* Week, February 9-16, we will turn our church into a home for temporarily homeless families. We'll convert our classrooms into bedrooms, cook meals, stay overnight, and provide other help. To join our volunteer team, sign up in the lounge after church on Sunday, or contact Chris DeGolyer, chrisdeg@frontiernet.net with questions. If you'd like to learn more before volunteering, we have opportunities to "shadow" experienced volunteers.
*Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network: keeping families together. Getting families home for good.
