Tuesdays | Drop-In Discussion
Drop-In Discussions are virtual! We meet on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!

- This Week: Understanding the White Working Class
This discussion will delve into the ideas presented in the book, White Working Class: Overcoming Class Cluelessness in America, by Joan C. Williams. These ideas include: Just who is the white working class? Why do they resent the poor and admire the rich? Why don't they buck up and go to college, or move to where the jobs are? Are they racist? Janus Mary Jones will lead the discussion.

- Next Week: Practical Politics: Anti-Vaxxers & Democrats
Should they demonize them and turn them into the focus of a culture war? Should they try to persuade them? Should they try to accommodate them so they aren't pushed out of the coalition? Don't just react, try to go deep. Bill Elwell presents.

A Zoom link will be provided before the meeting.

Seeking Worship Associates
Are you interested in serving as a Worship Associate? WA’s assist the Minister with worship services, by speaking, and sometimes writing, elements of the service. WA’s also, in coordination with our staff and guest speakers, create the worship script when Rev. Lane is out of the pulpit. To be selected for the WA team, you must be a member of First Universalist who attends worship services regularly, interested in learning about UU theology and worship, and willing to be a reliable and supportive member of the WA team. Public speaking skills and experience are preferred. In selecting WA’s, consideration will be given to balance in the makeup of the WA team. If you think you might be interested in serving our church in this way, please email Rev. Lane Campbell, minister@uuroc.org

A Message from the COVID Task Force
We are thrilled that we have been able to return to worshiping in our beautiful sanctuary. When we are together we will need to continue to follow safety protocols that include KN95 masks, full vaccination and social distancing. Those who are eligible for booster vaccine should arrange to have this additional protection since it makes a difference in protection against the consequences of Omicron infection. If you have questions/comments, please drop us an email or call us. We want to hear from you! covid@uuroc.org

Civil Rights Heritage Park - "Buy A Brick" Campaign!
Join in creating a legacy walk by donating a brick. We'll help you design a brick that will lift up an African American who has made a difference in the Black Freedom Struggle. The Minister Franklin D. Florence Civil Rights Heritage Park will illuminate the lives and unmute voices of our African ancestors, Rochesterians and others who worked for racial justice. The park will present the story of the Black Freedom Struggle in an innovative urban space for learning, dialogue and reflection. It will be located in the 14605 zip code where much of the grassroots organizing took place in the Black community. It is also the location where the 1964 three-day uprising began, out of the frustration over horrific housing conditions, high unemployment, and structural barriers to progress. Questions?
