The journey undertaken in western New York to make outdoor recreation accessible to everyone in one of this country's favorite parks. The Autism Nature Trail (The ANT) at Letchworth State Park opened on October 1, 2021. The project demonstrates that when we provide opportunities for a group of underserved individuals, everybody wins. Loren Penman, Co-chair ANT, presents. Drop-In Discussions are virtual! An anonymous donor has generously offered to match up to $2500 any donations we make before August 31 to the Richard Brush Memorial Fund for Family Promise's shelter program. It will help pay for temporary apartment housing for families as they look for permanent housing. Food ingathering is rescheduled for this Sunday, June 12, for the Community Food Cupboard of Rochester at Nester Street at our in- person service, YAY! Low-sodium non-perishable food, toiletries, paper products, and cash are needed!

Our Annual Picnic is back! It will be held at the Long House shelter in Seneca park from 1 to 4pm. What you bring: A dish to pass (please provide a list of ingredients for folks with food allergies), something to grill, your drinks, board games, lawn games, etc. What we will provide: dishes, utensils, napkins, condiments, the grill, and bottles of water. Our church’s partnership with Spiritus Christi Anti-Racism Coalition and the First Unitarian Church continues as we plan to participate in the Juneteenth Walk.  Developing the Civil Rights Heritage Park is still our goal. We are urging church members to participate on our team (UUROC) which can be found on the website cited below.

The Sixth Annual Roc Juneteenth 5K Run/Walk will join the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival this year to celebrate Juneteenth. The run/walk will take place at 1pm in Genesee Valley Park on Sunday, June 19, 2022, Father’s Day. The cost of the virtual race is $10; the cost of the in-person race is $25 ($30 the day of the race). The CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival is using the occasion of its own nineteenth edition festival to honor the most significant “nineteenth” date in American history: June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in the country were freed by resistant slaveholders in Texas.

Did you know that the UUA General Assembly is meeting online and in-person on June 22 - 26 in Portland, Oregon? General Assembly is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists, where we conduct business of the Association, explore the theological underpinnings of our faith, and lean fully into our mission and principles. That remains true even when we cannot gather physically. For those who enjoyed the accessibility of remote participation, General Assembly will continue to offer virtual attendance with robust programming!

The Library Committee is having a book sale after Sunday services on June 26, with used books for sale for whatever you choose to pay and new books for sale at half price! We need payment in exact change or checks for the new books. We will have a display of new books in our lending library, including a novel by Steve Searls, a memoir by Elizabeth Osta, a history of the freedom struggle in Rochester, and a textbook on critical race theory. We’re unsure when we’ll be open on a regular basis for buying/borrowing/browsing so if you want to stock up on summer reading material, this is a good opportunity!
