Most of us have experienced the frustration of talking to people who are clearly wrong about politics, science or some other topic, and can't be persuaded to admit they're wrong. But what does it take to get people to admit they're wrong. What would it take for each of us to admit we're wrong about an important topic? Phil Ebersole will lead a discussion of this topic. Drop-In Discussions are virtual! We meet on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the
First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!
August 14 | Next Outdoor Hybrid Service!
This will be a hybrid service, with the in-person portion being held at the Canalside lodge in Genesee Valley Park (by the lodge we used last summer, this one is closer to the road).
August 21 | Book Group: "The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story" by Nikole Hannah-Jones
There are several options for reading available which should give you a variety of choices. The hardcover or kindle is the longest and most complete version. However, there are also summaries and a New York Times article if you're pressed for time and/or want to explore other forms of discussion around the topic. One last note, the date is one week later than usual because Church Service will be held in Genesee Park on the second Sunday. Please join us August 21 at 11:50am in the Chalice Room for a lively discussion!
FPGROC: Richard Brush Memorial Fund Update! We Have met the Match!
An anonymous donor has offered to match any donations made before August 31 to the Richard Brush Memorial Fund program (up to $2,500). As of July 27th, the Richard Brush Memorial Fund has received donations of $2602, exceeding our anonymous donor's matching challenge of $2500! Many thanks to everyone who contributed. This fund will support Family Promise of Greater Rochester's shelter program for housing families while they search for their own permanent housing. Families especially need this help now when rents are rising and affordable apartments are increasingly hard to find.
