10am Sunday Service: Lifting Our Voices

With 72 days left until the election, let's widen our view of what is at stake in our election. This service will feature the Transposing Voices, an all-trans choir based in Rochester as well as the Jubilee Singers, a gospel choir with members from First Unitarian & First Universalist.

Speaker: Rev. Lane-Mairead Campbell

Each Sunday ushers will have several large-print copies of the order of service available. If you would like one, please ask an usher.

Tuesday, August 20 | Drop-In Discussion: GA 2024 - Article II

Article II of our denominational by-laws contains what is meant to be an evolving statement of our shared religious faith. Elizabeth Osta and Michael Scott, delegates to the recent UUA General Assembly, will share their impressions of the multi-year revision process that has literally placed love at the center of our theology. Drop-in Discussions meet via Zoom on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!

August 25 | Get-out-the-vote Postcard Writing

Let's encourage voters in key states and be sure they have how-to-vote info through postcards! UU the Vote partner Center for Common Ground helps potential voters have timely and accurate information to make their vote count, and postcards can reach overlooked and/or ignored voters—often BIPOC, rural, and young people—for whom phone numbers aren't available and/or aren't reached through door-to-door canvassing. Join together with folks from both congregations to write postcards together after the service on Sunday, August 25 or to pick up a set of 20 with instructions, to write at home and return by early October for timely mailing. Consider donating to church to help pay for postcard stamps (put "UU the Vote stamps" in the note field). Questions? Contact Chris Farnum, chris.farnum@gmail.com.

Postcard Writing for the Election

Would you like to join First Universalist for postcard writing in preparation for the upcoming election? We will host ongoing postcard writing sessions on the first and third Sundays through October. Feel free to take the postcards home or stay and write them in the Clara Barton Lounge after Sunday Services on September 1 and 15, and October 6 and 20. The Center for Common Ground, a non-partisan organization based in Virginia, is sending postcards to Black and Indigenous people of color throughout the country to encourage them to vote. We provide the addresses, text, and stamps for the postcards. Every vote counts in this crucial election! Questions? Contact Barb Brody. Thank you for considering joining us in this important effort!
