Join us this Sunday
October 21, 2018

10:30 am Morning Service:   October 21, | Who Are Our Neighbors? There is a certain responsibility and hospitality about being a neighbor to someone. It is more than just living next to one another. In this time of deep aloneness and anxiety, we explore how to connect with the folks living alongside us in a neighborly way.
—Rev. Lane Campbell

9:15 am Drop In Discussion: October 21, | Defibrillator Training. Our new A utomated E xternal D efibrillator (AED) is so easy to use, you don't even have to have training to use it and save a life. Once you turn it on, you just do what it tells you! But maybe you would appreciate being more informed? Kate Fleury, RN, BSN, a Certified American Heart Association Instructor, will show and demonstrate lifesaving techniques that we can use here at First Universalist if it were needed. Join us October 28 for What Gives Us the Will to Live? David Damico facilitates.

PROJECT TEAM BOOK DISCUSSION

Join Project Team members Elizabeth Osta and Dave VanArsdale for the second part of the two-part discussion of the popular and riveting book , When They Call You A Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir , by Patrisse Khan-Cullors and Asha Bandele. This is a powerful memoir by a mother and a wife, a community organizer and queer, an artist and a dreamer, who in 2013 invented the hashtag #blacklivesmatter and then became one of the co-founders of that organization. Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrice Khan-Cullors reminds us American racism is pervasive – even in liberal California. The book has been well reviewed by Phil Ebersole and has become a keystone in discussions of racism. The discussion will be held Sunday, October 21 from 12:15 pm until 1:15 pm in the Chalice Room. It’s not necessary to have read the book though it is well worth reading!
     BOOK GROUP

October's Book Group pick is Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. A true story about the Osage tribe murders and the birth of the FBI. Please join us October 28 at 12 noon in the Chalice Room for a lively discussion of this well researched not to mention riveting  book. Questions? Please see Shirley Bond or Sarah Singal.
