10:30am Sunday Service at First Unitarian:

Jubilee Day: A Juneteenth Service

First Universalist will be joining First Unitarian church in-person and online for a celebration of Juneteenth, led by Rev. Verdis Robinson. Service happens at 10:30am. On June 17, 2021, President Biden signed a bill creating the eleventh American federal holiday now known as Juneteenth National Independence Day. Join us in this BIPOC*-led service reflecting on the meanings of freedom, especially for our incarcerated siblings.

Speaker: Rev. Verdis Robinson

This service will take place at First Unitarian

located at 220 Winton Road S, Rochester NY 14610-2998

*The acronym "BIPOC" refers to "Black, Indigenous, and other people of color" and aims to emphasize the historical oppression of Black and Indigenous people.

Tuesday, June 18 | Drop-In Discussion: Failure in Ukraine

In February, 2022, we were told that our government would not only foil Russian aggression by arming Ukraine, but bring Russia to its knees by means of economic sanctions. Phil Ebersole will do a presentation and lead a discussion on how that is working out. Drop-in Discussions meet via Zoom on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!

Thursday, June 20 | Andy Carey - Rochester Housing Initiatives Presentation

St. Mary's Church has invited us to join them for Andy Carey's presentation on Housing Initiatives in Rochester on Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 PM at the Dugan Center in St. Mary's Church (across Washington Square Park). Andy will talk about the cost of homelessness, the housing crisis, the opioid epidemic, and access to mental health care, and will share success stories. Andy is the co-founder of MC Collaborative and board chair of REACH Advocacy. He has been helping people who have slept in our church alcove to find shelter.

June 19-23 | G.A. '24: Church Watch Parties!

General Assembly for the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations is all online this year, which means: our local congregations will be hosting watch parties! Come, gather with UU friends to see what the larger denomination is voting on and talking about! We will have Potluck Dinners each day. The host church will provide main dishes which will include vegan/gf options. See the June Outlook for the full schedule, and check out uua.org/ga.

General sessions are available to everyone. Registering means extra content like workshops, keynote speakers, etc. If you would like to attend or have questions contact edu@uuroc.org.
