This Week at Grace

Behold, New Things
So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!
2 Corinthians 5:17

Dear Grace,

As we open this New Year together, I am keenly aware of how many things in our shared lives are new. In the past few years, Grace has taken on a great number of new things: new partnerships, new spaces and now, a new pastor. It can feel at times that we need to rush into learning everything we can about this new place we share in ministry. It is like new shoes. We want to quickly break in this relationship so it can feel comfortable and well worn. But the reality is that newness isn't simply a place to get past. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians that those who live in Christ are new, and by that I don't think he means until they get broken in again. Newness for the people of God is living into the reality that God is always changing and making things new. And we, as God's people, are a big part of that work.

As unsettling as change can be, I am excited to begin exploring our new ministry together. There are many people in this congregation to get to know and my hope is that this curiosity is shared. For this reason I want us to spend some time together in this new season talking and listening. I want to hear about who you are as a congregation and what dreams you share for the future. I also want you to have the chance to learn more about me, my family and our shared ministry.

To help us explore newness together, I will be scheduling a variety of times and locations for listening sessions. These informal gatherings will be a chance for you to share your hopes and dreams for Grace UMC. In the coming weeks, there will be sign-ups available online and in print for you to find the best time and location to participate. I look forward to sitting down and hearing the many ways Grace has transformed your life.

One final word of gratitude for those I had the pleasure of worshiping with on January 1 st. Thank you for your warm welcome! On January 6 th Dalton, my spouse, and I will celebrate ten years of marriage. Many months ago we planned a special trip to celebrate this milestone in our lives which means that I will be be away on January 8 th. Luckily we will share many more Sundays together! For those I have yet to meet, I hope to see you on January 15 th or soon after!

Help us keep our community fed!

Grace's Bread Ministry is looking for someone on 2nd Saturdays of the month to pick up dated bread from Publix (Piedmont and Monroe) and deliver it to the Women's and Children's Mission (Howell Mill and 8th Street).

It only takes about 1 hour of your time. Contact Carol Oliver or Shirley Tondee via the church office (office@graceonponce.org) for details.

Congregational Care

In hospice care at her daughter's home: Nancy Page

Nancy cannot hold cards, but enjoys when they are read to her and perks up when she receives phone calls and someone holds the phone to her ear.
