Seeking Greenlee students with innovative ideas and an entrepreneurial spirit! The University of Missouri Reynolds Journalism Institute is hosting a student innovation competition. The first-place prize is $10,000. Each team of one to four students will partner with a local news organization to propose and perhaps execute a new method for engaging with readers and viewers. This is an excellent opportunity to show off your skills, build your résumé, network with professionals and dream up new ideas for journalism. The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication awards over $100,000 in scholarships to its students annually.

To be considered for Greenlee School scholarships, students must submit the General and LAS College portions of the OneApp including the five designated Greenlee School questions in the LAS application portion.

The Greenlee master’s program is a 32-credit course of study culminating in a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in journalism and mass communication. Two tracks are available: one for students who desire specialized study in communication theory and research and one for students who wish to develop or strengthen their professional and strategic communication skills.

Applications for January 2021 admission will be accepted now through Nov. 1.

The fall 2020 undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies and college convocations will be held virtually. Additional information will be posted on the graduation and commencement website as it becomes available.

Students have three attempts to pass each of the three assessments with a 78% or more (39 out of 50). Students must use these attempts by 4 p.m. CDT Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020. Student can use these attempts with any computer with internet access.

Students who interested and/or engaged in civic innovation can prepare applications for the 2020 Reimagine Challenge, which seeks inventive and compelling ideas about changes that could create a better world for college and university students. The challenge is an initiative of Schmidt Futures, a philanthropic organization founded by Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO and host of the Reimagine podcast.

Up to 20 student winners will receive a scholarship up to $25,000 and publication in an anthology AND their university sponsor will also receive $25,000.

The 2020 Presidential election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3. Students can choose whether to vote in Ames or at their permanent address. Students must be at least 18 years old by Nov. 3 to vote. Voting in Ames: If you’ve just moved to Ames or have moved to a new residence hall or apartment since the last election, you need to (re)register. If you have an Iowa driver’s license or non-operator ID, register to vote online. If you don’t have an Iowa driver’s license, use this postage paid form to register in Ames. Fill it out, fold, tape and drop off at any U.S. post office or official mailbox. Other Iowa counties: Want to vote in another Iowa county? The Secretary of State’s web site has information you need to check your registration, register, and request absentee ballots. Iowa deadline: The deadline to pre-register to vote in Iowa is Oct. 24. Other states: To register and request absentee ballots in other states, visit ALL IN to Vote for information, including deadlines. Questions? The Students Helping Our Peers (SHOP) food pantry is open for the fall semester in its new location — 1306 Beyer Hall. Hours are Tuesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteer opportunities are available.

LAS 203 is a one credit, 8-week course designed to provide students with knowledge on foundational career-related topics such as resume writing, interviewing, negotiating offers, and other career related topics. Students will develop effective strategies for overall professionalism and internship/job seeking methods to positively impact future career success. In-person and online sections are available. No textbook is required. This course has consistently earned nearly perfect instructor and course content ratings.
