PIE deadline has been extended to Dec. 13
If you are planning to take JL MC 201 in spring 2021 but haven’t yet passed the Poynter Institute Exam (known in Greenlee as PIE), you have a little more time to do so. A extension has been granted, and the deadline is now Dec. 13, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

Passing the Poynter Institute Exam (known in Greenlee as PIE) is a prerequisite for JL MC 201. The exam is part of an online course offered through Poynter’s News University. Students have three attempts to pass each of the three assessments with a 78% or more (39 out of 50). Student can use these attempts with any computer with internet access.

Visit our website for more information on signing up, studying for, and completing the final assessments.

Hearst Awards - plan ahead for spring competitions
The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication encourages Greenlee students to submit their best published work for consideration in the 2021 Hearst Journalism Awards competition. The program features competitions throughout the year in writing, photojournalism, audio, television, and multimedia, and the winning students are awarded scholarships and networking opportunities. As a participating school, Greenlee selects the two entrants per competition. The competitions are open to undergraduate journalism majors. An exception to the journalism major rule is made for students entering the photojournalism competitions. Submissions must have been disseminated in professional or student media while the student was an undergraduate.

To apply, submit your best published work in the following categories to Deni Chamberlin at dcham@iastate.edu by noon on the deadlines listed below.
