Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony

Date: Saturday, December 18, 2021

Time: 1:30 p.m.

Location: Hilton Coliseum

It is anticipated that the ceremony will last approximately 3 hours.

The doors to Hilton coliseum will open at 11:30 a.m. for guests. Guest seating is unlimited – please invite everyone who wishes to celebrate your significant achievement! No tickets are required. Masks are encouraged, but not required, for all attendees. Graduates who choose to wear a mask are welcome to remove it for the onstage picture, if desired.

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Fall 2021 Undergraduate Convocation

Purpose: To recognize all undergraduate students graduating from the college

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Convocation is a separate event from the official Iowa State University commencement ceremonies. Convocation only includes students from the LAS college and offers students and their guests a more personalized celebration of their achievement. Seating is unlimited, and no tickets are required. Attendance is optional.

LAS Connect is a free, professional resource, which allows users to offer and seek mentorship, connect with professionals, build and maintain a powerful network of fellow LAS Cyclones, and more! This is a great resource for graduating seniors.

Vaccination clinic

All appointments have been reserved for the Dec. 15 vaccine clinic at State Gym. If you were unable to make an appointment, additional vaccine options are available at vaccines.gov, text your ZIP code to 438829, or call 1-800-232-0233 to find locations near you. The university is working with Hy-Vee to offer another clinic after the start of the spring semester.

Happy winter break!

Finish finals strong! We wish everyone a safe and healthy winter break.

The Greenlee offices will be closed Dec. 27-30 and will have adjusted winter break hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 20-23.

The inaugural Health and Wellness Symposium will be held February 4th 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm in the Memorial Union. The breakout sessions and keynote speaker will focus on wellbeing and engagement on college campuses. This symposium is FREE for Iowa State University students, faculty and staff. Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided throughout the afternoon.

Early registration is encouraged to ensure availability of your preferred breakout sessions. If you register by December 31st, you will be entered into a drawing for prizes.

BREAKING NEWS: Greenlee students can take JL MC 201 Reporting & Writing sooner

Advertising, Journalism & Mass Communication, and Public Relations majors can now enroll in the required JL MC 201: Reporting & Writing for the Mass Media course before completing ENGL 250. The ENGL 250 pre-requisite has been waived for Spring 2022, leaving the only pre-requisite of concurrent or past enrollment in the one-credit JL MC 110 Orientation course.

The change allows Greenlee students to jump ahead in their coursework. JL MC 201 is the required gateway course for all three of the Greenlee majors. Students must earn a C+ or better in JL MC 201 to enroll in many upper-level courses.

Seats are open in several sections of JL MC 201. Students can enroll via Access+.

Hearst explanatory reporting competition

Entries for the Audio News and Features Competition are due Jan. 18.

The selected entrants must be current undergraduate journalism majors at the time the article is published. An exception is made for spring, summer or fall 2021 graduates, allowing them to enter the contests in the 2021-2022 program year. The entries must have been published before students were graduated.

Entries must have been disseminated in a campus or professional publication or website. If the entry was published in an off-campus publication, a letter from the editor is required verifying that the entry is student work with minimal editing and no editor rewriting.

ADVRT 436: Advertising Portfolio Practicum

Prereq: Minimum of C+ in ADVERT 334, non-majors with instructor permission.

Advanced advertising writing and design for students seeking a career as a copywriter or art director. Focus on the creative process and developing advertising campaigns for a multitude of clients in various media (digital, television, print, out-of-home, etc.). Finished projects featured in an online portfolio developed as part of the course. Online portfolios critiqued by creative professionals in the advertising field.

Student podcast producers wanted

LAS Multicultural Student Success is seeking Greenlee students to produce a new podcast titled “Black and Brown at the Cardinal and Gold”, focused on profiling students of color within LAS. This interview series will be hosted by Arnold Woods, Director of Multicultural Student Success for LAS, and will highlight the brilliant multicultural students within the college and their stories of how they came to Iowa State. The series will provide a space for LAS students of color to reflect on their journeys, share what inspires and motivates them, and speak on relevant and important topics.

Producers will be responsible for planning, editing and promoting the podcast. Producers should be knowledgeable, or willing to learn, audio producing and editing. Those skills would include recording in a studio and editing files to put together an engaging, educational and entertaining podcast. The producers will also be involved in promoting the podcast, including interacting with a hosting site, delivering the podcast to popular aggregators and creating additional materials such as show notes and background information.

Outreach and Engagement Assistant

The Iowa Water Center is looking for an outreach and engagement assistant. Students will assist in carrying out communication plans for the IWC. Tasks include:

Design and development of an annual science communication publication
Creating electronic newsletters
Blogging
Website content management
Creating graphic displays
Video editing

The job requires experience using Microsoft Office products (especially Word and PowerPoint), web content management software, and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat) and Adobe Premiere.

Greenlee front desk assistant position

This position will primarily answer phones, welcome all guests, and make appointments for advisors. Additional duties will include but are not limited to: reserving conference rooms for meetings, helping students complete University forms, faxing, scanning, copying, printing, filing, and shredding items.

This semester we only need students who are available Monday, Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the fall semester. Once you are hired, hours will change every semester.
