Gearing up for the fall semester
|
|
To keep you in the loop as we prepare to begin fall classes on Aug. 17, we are resuming This Week at Greenlee early. This newsletter, sent every Monday to Greenlee majors, will be the primary way the Greenlee School shares important updates with you throughout the year.
Greenlee and Hamilton Hall-specific updates will also be posted on our Greenlee COVID-19 Updates page and shared on social media: Twitter ( @isu_gsjc), Instagram ( @isu_gsjc) and Facebook ( @greenleeschool). Our goal is to make it easy for you to stay in the know without overwhelming your inbox.

Check your class schedule in AccessPlus today!
Updated class lists, indicating delivery mode and locations, are now available on AccessPlus. At this time, students who wish to change their schedule to achieve more online or in-person courses, or switch sections of the same course, have the opportunity to do so in AccessPlus. (Please note, some courses could still change, however the majority of the fall schedule is finalized.) This graphic illustrates a comparison between delivery modes. Instructors will be in touch with more info as the first day of school nears.
Classes begin on Aug. 17, and students may make changes to their schedules without instructor and/or adviser approval until Friday, Aug. 21. Students who need assistance in changing their fall course schedule should contact their adviser.
Greenlee School main office now open
The main office, located in 101 Hamilton Hall, reopened today. Summer hours (7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) continue through Aug. 7. Regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) resume Aug. 10. Per university policy, face coverings and/or face shields are required if you visit Hamilton. If you forget yours, disposable masks are available in 101 Hamilton.
You can continue to reach the main office staff by phone (515-294-4342) or by email (greenlee@iastate.edu).
Advising and appointments
Advising appointments are by appointment only. Schedule advising meetings with the academic advisers (Jessica Hansen-Moench, Kelsie Poe and Juli Probasco-Sowers) through EAB or by calling 515-294-4342 whenever possible rather than coming into the main office.
Faculty office hours and meetings (including advising meetings, student organizational meetings, thesis/creative component defenses) should take place in a virtual environment this semester unless there is a pressing need to meet in person. Even then, some individuals may still require virtual options. Refer to our faculty directory for contact and appointment scheduling info for individual faculty members. (Updated Fall 2020 faculty office hours will be posted by Aug. 17.)
Laptop requirement
Beginning in fall 2020, all students at Iowa State University will be required to own or obtain a laptop computer or other device appropriate to their discipline. Iowa State University Information Technology Services established an information page about the requirement.
To support students, there is funding available through the CARES Act and loaners available through the Iowa State Library Laptop Loaner Program. For details, visit the ITS information page, and click on “What if I can’t afford to buy my own laptop computer?” Requests must be submitted by 5 p.m. CST Aug. 27 (updated deadline).
Our IT staff has provided additional information on Greenlee-specific recommendations for optimum compatibility with Greenlee lab computers. (These specific recommendations are not required purchases.)
Greenlee labs and equipment
While open campus computer labs will be closed during the fall 2020 semester, the Greenlee School is working on ways for students to safely access the necessary software and equipment for our skills courses. More information will be shared soon.
