Fridays, Sept. 11-Oct. 30, 1:10-3 p.m.
Creating your professional network is a key element of making your transition from college to the professional world. This Greenlee Short Course Intensive will guide you on the design of your professional network, help you take your first steps in activating your network, give you structured practice in interacting with your network, and help you understand how networking benefits the people in your network. This course is suitable for Advertising, Journalism, and Public Relations majors in any year of their program.

Food Photography
Saturday, Oct. 10, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Meredith Corporation, Des Moines
Learn the basics of publication-worthy food photography from veteran professionals. Photographers, food editors, art directors and food stylists will share the basics of making food look visually appealing. Discover the tips and tricks of still-life food shots and step-by-step recipe images. Note: This is a hybrid course. Online assignments also will be due before and after the Oct. 10 Meredith classroom event.

Registration for Summer and Fall 2020 classes has been adjusted to allow additional time for students to connect with their academic advisers.

In order to best mitigate risk of viral transmission, students and advisers are encouraged to conduct appointments electronically via WebEx, Zoom, e-mail, phone, Canvas, and EAB Navigate.

Note: Modifications may be made this list due to the university's recent announcement to offer Full Summer courses and the Summer Session I academic term, which begins Monday, May 18, through virtual instruction only. A decision on Summer Session II, which begins June 15, will be made later in the spring.

Apply for LAS unpaid internship scholarships
The
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS)
awards a limited number of scholarships to LAS undergraduate students during the semester they are enrolled in an internship where no compensation is paid by the employer.
Students will need to enroll in an internship course for course credit or R-credit and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
Students will be notified of the awarding of a scholarship within two weeks of the deadline. Scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 and will be applied to the student’s UBill the semester of the unpaid internship.

Spring 2020 PIE moving online - complete by MAY 1
|
Due to the extension of remote learning at Iowa State University, the Poynter Institute Exam (PIE) will be offered online for the rest of the spring 2020 semester. Students will no longer come into Hamilton Hall on the designated testing days. Instead, students will take the PIE through the Poynter Institute website on their own time from any computer with Internet access. Students will have until
4 p.m. CDT Friday, May 1, 2020
, to use their 5 attempts at the test. Passing requires a score of at least 78% (117 questions right out of 150).
Students who have already taken the exam will have those attempts count toward their total. For example, if a student already took the exam twice in person for spring 2020, they would have three more attempts to complete online.

Drive-up Wi-Fi available outside Jack Trice Stadium
|
Students, faculty and staff who need Wi-Fi service can now access an ISU internet connection from their vehicle in a Jack Trice Stadium parking lot. Those with an active ISU Net-ID can park in lot S7 (near gate 2) and use their ISU credentials to connect to the
Eduroam network
from their vehicle.

Adobe Creative Cloud, coursework and other reminders
|
Equipment checkout (cameras, microphones, etc.) and open labs will be closed during our period of online instruction. Your instructors have been notified and will be offering alternative assignments as necessary.
We also have an option to use your personal computer to remotely log into one of our lab computers to access additional software resources. Your instructor will provide the necessary instructions if this pertains to your course.

Updated Pass/Not Pass policy
|
Iowa State is
passing a new policy to allows students in any undergraduate course that was changed to virtual instruction as a result of COVID-19 to take the course as Pass/Not Pass and still have it count towards curricular, major, academic progress, and graduation requirements.

an organization, you can acquire the skills, knowledge and personal networks to become an agent of change in the LAS Dean’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I+E) Academy!
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is launching a new two-year academy for all LAS majors, where you can engage in online, face-to-face, and interactive activities to experience and develop an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset. We’ll even match you with a mentor in the second year, and you can emerge from the academy with a well-defined path to develop your big idea – or ideas you may have in the future!
The program is geared to first and second-year LAS majors. Participants must be enrolled in an LAS major and maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA.
