Light a Candle
Dear Friends,
It has been a tumultuous 24 hours. It has been a devastating 10 months. It has been a divisive and confusing 4 years.
This morning, a member of our congregation suggested that we each light a candle and put it on our front stoop (or mantle or kitchen table or wherever makes sense) to express our faith. I’m going to put a votive in a canning jar so the wind won’t put it out. Would you be willing to do something similar starting at 7 p.m.?
The Gospel of John reads, “The light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it.” I believe that with all of my heart!
May each of us see — and become — that light in the darkness.
Sending love an hope to all of you,
Pete

A Note From Our Ministry Intern:
|
Beloved friends,
I pray that you have found some moments for peace and calm after the past 24 hours in which we have witnessed a whirlwind of emotions and terrifying actions. As a Christian, seminarian, and someone who believes in salvation through Christ, the images we witnessed yesterday feel profane. We saw photos of our faith used to incite violence and to celebrate pain and anger and hate. The United Church of Christ and our congregation have always believed in social justice and will still condemn hate and violent actions.
Today, I firmly placed myself within Psalm 23 and remembered that God promises to set the table before all of us. No matter our political stance or our perceived identities, our God will come through, and no amount of violence or lies will ever undo our genuine belief that love will always win. As ministers and seminarians, and theologians, over the past 24 hours, I have received so many people needing pastoral care and understanding. I’m sure many of you want to know why this has happened and what we will do about it in the future.
I leave you with entire transparency; I don’t know. I don’t know what will happen; next, I don’t understand why this happened, and my place as a spiritual leader does not give me any more insight into it. I know that on the day that we meet our God, there will be a kingdom of peace and love. I do know that while we rock through values of hardship and of fear, God covers us. Know that you are loved, know that you were seen and heard, and please know you are valid.
Peace and love,
Daryl

Welcome to the . . .
HCC 2021 Fellowship Soup Share!
For January, February & March lets have a little soup-fun!
|
|
|
We welcome all HCC members and friends to submit their favorite soup or stew recipes for all of us to try. We’ll be able to make, them at home, and see what we think. Then we can vote on our favorites. At the end of the 3 months the chef that submitted the soup/stew with the most votes gets a new apron!
If you or someone you know is not part of FB, they can email Stephanie Minister (sgeorgmini@yahoo.com) and she can add the recipe.
Happy New Year! Stephanie Minister

Earlier this week, the Mass. State Legislature passed a very forward-looking Climate bill (SB2992) with a target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Please consider writing to Governor Baker, encouraging him to sign it. Below is a Mass. Audubon link that makes sending such a letter to the Guv very easy.

Call for Winter Music Volunteers!
We are in need of volunteer musicians (especially strings, keyboard, melodic percussion, (non-singers, and non-wind players)). While much research is being done on the spread of aerosols in music ensembles, it is not complete, and we have no cure or vaccine for COVID-19. Our choirs will not gather in person until we are sure it is safe to do so. Senior choir will continue to gather on ZOOM, Now Thursdays 7:15 -8:45, where we will enjoy fellowship, sing-alongs, and create virtual choir anthems. Let me know if you want to join.
