Happy New Year Hope Ames!
Did you take your vitamins this morning? No judgment if you forgot. I did. In fact, I’m pretty sure I forgot to take them yesterday too.
How can we forget to take something that contains the supplements that our body needs?
I think it’s partly because one day without vitamins doesn’t make me feel wildly different than one day with them. With that mindset, one day turns into two, then a week, now a month and eventually, there’s no purpose for me to buy them anymore because I won’t take them.
If I’m not careful, I can start to believe that my life is fine without vitamins. Truth is, if I started each day with them, I might not see drastic changes immediately but in two and a half months (or maybe two and a half decades), my body would be so much better off.
Did you read your Bible this morning? No judgment if you forgot. I forget sometimes too (but it’s pretty hard to forget when you’re writing a letter about reading your Bible, ha!).
How can we forget to spend time in something that our soul
I think it’s like vitamins. We don’t always feel suddenly different one day because we read God’s Word (although, you might). One day turns into a month and now, maybe it’s been a year since your Bible has been opened.
If we’re not careful, we can start to believe that our life is fine without reading the Bible. This is the truth: we need it. It’s the simplest way to connect with God and hear what he has to say to us.
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105).
Too many of us have forgotten our Bibles, and we’re doing something about that at Hope. As a church that has used the Bible as our highest source since we began over two and a half decades ago, we know that we couldn’t be who we’re supposed to be without it. We want everyone who comes to Hope to know the same.
This weekend, we’ll begin a yearlong series called
“12 Books in 12 Months.”
Each month, we’ll take a deep dive into one of 12 great books of Scripture, and the goal is simple: to become a more biblically-fluent church and learn to apply God’s Word to our everyday lives.
I can’t wait, Church! Spend some time in God’s Word today, and I’ll see you at 10:00 on Sunday morning in the Ames City Auditorium for worship!
