RAISE HELL tells the story of media firebrand Molly Ivins, six feet of Texas trouble who took on the Good Old Boy corruption wherever she found it. In this rural drama, The Southerner, Sam Tucker is a Texan cotton picker who aspires to run his own farm and create a better life for his family. Aided by his beautiful wife, Tucker begins to work a neglected plot of land, but numerous difficulties arise, including bad weather and conflicts with jealous neighbors, making it hard for the Tuckers to get ahead. On a beautiful June weekend in 1967, at the beginning of the Summer of Love, the first Monterey International Pop Festival roared forward, capturing a decade's spirit and ushering in a new era of rock and roll. Monterey Pop features career-making performances by Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Otis Redding, but they were just a few among a wildly diverse cast. Thursday, January 16 at 7:00pm.
Frank Bigelow (Edmond O'Brien) is informed by a doctor that he is suffering from "iridium" poisoning and has only a few days to live. Frank sets off to find his killers.  A folk singer-songwriter, road-dog, raconteur, and almost-poet raised working-class Catholic, Peter Mulvey started with whatever gigs he could get while hitch-hiking in Ireland and busking in the States - today he tours internationally. Mulvey has 18 records, thousands of live performances, a TEDx Talk, an illustrated book, a decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp, and so much more. Opening for Peter Mulvey is Izzy Heltai, an indie-folk singer-songwriter who - through songs that draw from personal stories to address broader universal truths - connects deeply with his listeners. Henri-Georges Clouzot concentrates upon a real-life enigma in The Mystery of Picasso. While we are treated to several scenes of the legendary Spanish artist at work. As with Pablo Picasso's paintings, this documentary is meant to be experienced, not understood. The in-progress paintings displayed in The Mystery of Picasso were destroyed by the artist after the film was completed, making this documentary a "Must See." Tuesday, January 21 at 7:00pm.

Hopewell Theater pays tribute to spiritual leader Baba Ram Dass, born Richard Alpert, who recently passed away at the age of 88. Ram Dass was an inspiration for and will continue to inspire HT's ongoing series, The Art Of Living Well.

Becoming Nobody (2019) truly represents the core arc of Ram Dass’ teachings and life. His ability to entertain and his sense of humor are abundantly evident in a conversation that brings us around to address the vast question of ultimate freedom. This documentary features a retelling of the hard work and struggles that Allison, now 70, experienced, and which led to his Nobel Prize-winning discovery. This documentary is narrated by Woody Harrelson and is written and directed by Bill Haney. Tuesday, January 28 at 7:00pm.

The event's host and emcee is Erica Rubine, who will be accompanied by Matt Wiley, Alex Palilonis, and Brian Dougherty for live music from or inspired by the nominated films.
