HAPPINESS DOESN'T COME FROM HEADSTANDS
~ By Tamara Levitt

Leela loves to do yoga. She could do all sorts of poses, but there was one pose she couldn’t do. Every time Leela tried to do a headstand...KERPLUNK! Just because we may experience a failure does not mean that we are a failure.

Family Program
WELCOME FAMILIES! Our unique program offers weekly classes for children of all ages. Each month we explore one or more of the 16 Guidelines

To commemorate Mother's Day, held Sunday, May 14, the children handed out Mother's Day gifts – a baggie filled with yummy chocolates – to those attending the teachings. The baggie also contained the following quote from His Holiness the Dalai Lama:

"Since the cycle of existence has no beginning, there is no sentient being
we can point to and say, 'That person has not been my mother in the past.'
Not only have they been our mothers in the past,
but they will also be our mothers in the future ...
The mother is the first real teacher of compassion.
In creating a compassionate society, the mother is crucial.
You are sharing the wisdom of that experience."

~ By His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Family Program Coordinator Christy Batts also read a moving litany by Christian female author and blogger Amy Young titled, "The Wide Spectrum of Mothering." For more information, visit http://messymiddle.com.

  Merit Makers

Kadampa Center has hosted many wonderful events - teachings, initiations, creating the stupa, welcoming and blessing statues. In the flurry of doing all this, we haven't always kept a record of where we've been and what we've done. Several volunteers have been digging in our various archives -- old emails, newsletters and calendars -- to recover essential events and create a cohesive timeline. The work is ongoing, and we give our thanks now to Ven. Choekyi, Denise Flora, Catherine Deverter, Ashlee Williams and Arlene VanRyckeghem for all their hard work!

Side Note
Did you know Pandora radio now could tell you how many hours you’ve listened to a specific channel? When I think of all the effort we went to ‘back in the day’ to have portable music...
