"Good human qualities… honesty, sincerity, a good heart, cannot be bought with money, nor can they be produced by machines, but only by the mind itself. We call this the inner light, or God’s blessing, or human quality. This is the essence of mankind."
~ His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Let's practice and earn merit together!
In these sessions, Geshe Sangpo explains that creating merit is an essential part of Buddhist practice. When we build up our stores of merit, it removes obstacles in our spiritual lives. This makes it easier to understand the teachings and apply the Dharma in our everyday lives. Making merit is also great purification!

KADAMPA CENTER AND TIBETAN COMMUNITIES HONOR GESHE GELEK DURING 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Colorful Tibetan decor, Indian and traditional Tibetan finger foods, and festive Nepalese folk music transformed Kadampa Center into a colorful and joyous setting suitable for a grand celebration!

On Saturday, Aug. 3, members of the Kadampa Center and local Tibetan communities gathered to honor Geshe Gelek’s 20th Anniversary Celebration of serving Kadampa Center as resident teacher.

Upon his arrival, Geshe Gelek, accompanied by Geshe Sangpo, were greeted by happy faces offering a kata. Refreshments were offered and served in the lobby, including a beautiful gold-embellished cake.

All gathered later in the courtyard for heart-felt words of appreciation. Children offered the Manjushri mantra and cards to Geshe-la, and the Tibetan community and Kadampa Center offered special gifts honoring and thanking Geshe Gelek.
During a shining moment, and on behalf of the entire community, Kadampa Center Director Robbie Watkins announced the special gift of a paid-off mortgage to Geshe-la! Several children happily assisted Geshe-la complete the Western ritual of “burning the mortgage.”
We’re so blessed and grateful to have received the precious Dharma teachings from our dear Geshe-la – given freely with love and joy these past 20 years. May we, and countless others, be equally blessed for 20 more, and beyond!

PERFECTING WISDOM: HOW THINGS APPEAR AND HOW THEY TRULY ARE
~ by His Holiness the Dalai Lama
This extraordinarily clear exposition on the wisdom section of A Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life is based on an oral teaching given by H.H. the Dalai Lama in Switzerland before an audience of thousands of Tibetans and Westerners. Shantideva's A Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life is one of the most important texts in the Mahayana tradition of Buddhist practice. The section on transcendent wisdom is known among Buddhist scholars as a challenging exposition and difficult to understand without a commentary. Previously published as Transcendent Wisdom.

We have a waiting list – can you help? Kadampa Center Prison Project (KCPP) volunteers offer prisoner-support workshops using meditation to more skillfully navigate life, in prison and out. Many class participants have questions about meditation and Buddhism that cannot be addressed during our limited workshop time. Still others who are interested are located where our workshops are not available. It doesn't take a Buddhist scholar to write to an inmate. Just someone with a warm heart, a compassionate ear, and the willingness to keep a conversation going.

GARDEN VISION GROWS AS VOLUNTEERS REMOVE OLD SHED
Have you noticed the 'lack of shed' in the courtyard? We are grateful for the years of service our old shed provided, but given impermanence, it came time for it to go.

The hard work and countless hours by numerous people were needed to sort and clean the contents, relocate items to be kept, remove items to be trashed, and tear down and remove the entire shed. Three dump truck loads were needed to complete the extensive project!

As a result, our Buddha in the garden area now has more pleasant surroundings, and the seeds in our garden vision can continue to be planted, grow and blossom. Special thanks for the time, effort, and labor of love offered by the many volunteers listed below.
