Immigration Committee Request #1

A shy, kind Colombian immigrant is in urgent need of stable housing. She is 9 months pregnant and has just been evicted from her room in Oakland. She must move very soon. She can pay $700 per month, and is seeking a place where she can stay six months with a newborn child. She is also seeking baby gear, most urgently a stroller with a car seat for coming home from the hospital. She has been in the US for less than two years and has no family here. Please contact Yael with any leads at yael@mujeresunidas.net
Immigration Committee Request #2

We have a sponsor and young Guatemalan man who need housing as soon as possible. The sponsor is a PhD candidate at UC Berkeley, whose landlords decided to sell their house. He is a wonderful, perfectly-matched sponsor (has lived on & off in Guatemala and started his own nonprofit there) who is committed to providing housing for our recently-arrived friend. An ideal setup would be with someone who has a back house or empty rooms that understands the situation and is willing to offer below-market rent as an act of solidarity. They are looking for: Reasonable rent. Sponsor's price range is $800-$1,400, but the upper end of that range is a hardship. Two rooms if possible. Oakland or Berkeley--closer to their accompaniment team and to campus. The sponsor's classes resume Aug 28, so they are hoping to move in sometime August 19-28. I know this is a tight window, but let's think hard, spread the word, and see what housing we can find! Please email the sponsor, Michael, directly at < michaelbakal@gmail.com > with possibilities. Both individuals are wonderfully warm, positive, energetic, and conscientious
