Events, Workshops and Activities

National Coming Out Day: Wednesday, Oct. 11

"Coming Out" vs. "Inviting In"

"Coming out" has been the common term for someone who acknowledges being LGBTQ+. However, it is important to note that this language centers the persons we are coming out to rather than us. It gives the impression that people who don't identify as cisgender or heterosexual are hiding something from society, rather than acknowledging how homophobia and transphobia create an unwelcoming environment. When publicly identifying as LGBTQ+, you are inviting people into a part of your life that should be protected and celebrated. You are not asking for permission to be you. You control the narrative, as well as who and what you allow into your life.

Visit the Human Rights Campaign - National Coming Out Day to learn more.

This interactive project is a great discussion piece as it allows participants to become a part of the conversation on the different vulnerabilities that often lead to human trafficking and the exploitation of individuals. A red candy table will be set up.

Tips from the LCCC Learning Specialists

This reading is hard. This assignment is hard. This class is hard. College is hard! Life is hard! True, but you've done hard things before, and you can do them again. Take a moment and reflect.

What is something that you now think is easy but was hard for you at the beginning? How did you get there? Hard work? Making mistakes? Time? Support from others? Chances are, it was a mix of those things. Keep going!

For more insights, check out this video, reach out here or contact the LCCC Educational Support Services at educationalsupportservices@lccc.edu or 610-799-1156.

New Info: Preferred/Chosen First Name Changes

LCCC recognizes that students in our community may use names other than their legal first names to identify themselves.

Students can change their preferred name in Self-Service BannerWeb. Detailed instructions are available on the IT Knowledgebase. Changes will be reflected across LCCC systems within 48 hours. Additional student FAQs can be found here.

Note: A preferred/chosen first name is not a legal name change. Students who are legally changing their name should follow the instructions here.

Students may also submit requests for name changes in Google Workspace, including their "Display Name" in their email. Request information and find step-by-step instructions here in the LCCC IT knowledgebase. If you need further technical assistance, please visit the student technology help desk.
