Services and Activities Fair

Be sure to stop by the Service and Activities Fair on Tuesday, September 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Wednesday, September 21 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The fair will be held in the ARC cafeteria on both days. Stop by and learn about the many services available to students to help you be successful and learn how to get involved on campus in clubs, honor societies, athletics, Student Government Association, and more! There will be giveaways, free ice-cream, and a raffle. The top prize is a $100 VISA gift card! We hope to see you there!

Advice from the LCCC Learning Specialists

College courses have a lot of reading assignments. Students are expected to read additional materials for research projects as well.

When you are reading for college work, you are expected to be reading to learn the material, not just enjoy the material. There is a big difference between just reading and Reading2Learn.

Some Reading2Learn Tips:

• Create a plan, work the plan.
• Be active by annotating the text and taking notes.
• Vary your approach. Different texts require different approaches.
• Read deeply, but be mindful of burnout.

Hispanic Heritage Month

"Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation"

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 through October 15. September 15 is a key date in the history of several Latin American countries. It's when Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua declared their independence from Spain in 1821. Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the traditions and history unique to Hispanic cultures, as well as the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans.

Did you check your LCCC MyMail account today? It is essential that you access and use the college email account that has been provided for you. This email system is the college's primary mode of communication with you. This account will be used by your instructors and college staff to send information, updates, and emergency alerts to you. It is also how you are expected to reach out or respond to instructors, office staff, and any member of the college. Personal email accounts will not be used. So check your LCCC MyMail account each and every day. Your college success depends on it!

Spring 2023 Course Schedule Posted to Website

The course schedule for spring 2023 will be posted to the College website on Wednesday, September 21 and can be viewed here. Registration for spring 2023 will open Friday, October 7 for Veteran students and on Monday, October 10 for all students. Latin@ Leadership Club

Cougar Cabinet Food Distributions – September 22

LCCC will offer food distributions of pre-packed bags of groceries at the Allentown and Schnecksville locations.  

Reservations are required. Your reservation enables us to prepare adequate numbers of pre-packed bags for all seeking food assistance. Distributions are free and confidential.

Distribution Dates and Times:

LCCC Allentown - Thursday, September 22 from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

LCCC Schnecksville - Thursday, September 22 from 2 - 5 p.m.

To RSVP:

1. Select the location that works best for you.
2. Send an email message to Elizabeth Rivera, Community Resources and Basic Needs Specialist at erivera1@lccc.edu.
3. In your email message, include your name, L#, day and the selected LCCC location. You must be enrolled in courses for fall 2022 to participate in the food distribution program. Students can attend one distribution per week. 
4. After you send your message, you will receive additional information. 

If you are sick or have been exposed to someone who is sick, please do not participate in the distribution. Let us know, and we will work with you.

Connect with others.

Humans are social creatures, and it's important to have strong, healthy relationships with others. Having good social support may help protect you against the harms of stress. It is also good to have different types of connections. Besides connecting with family and friends, you could find ways to get involved with your community, neighborhood, or college. For example, you could volunteer for a local organization, join a group that is focused on a hobby you enjoy, or become a part of a club here at LCCC! Find the list of clubs here.

Police Presence on Schnecksville Campus

Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police will have an enhanced presence on the Schnecksville Campus for the near future in response to recent threats to schools in the area. They will be present on campus and in buildings at LCCC, in addition to area public school buildings. Questions can be directed to the LCCC Office of Public Safety and Security at 610-799-1169. Jobs on Campus - Great Positions Are Still Available!

There are many opportunities to work at LCCC as a student employee. Positions are on-campus and in-person. Most available jobs pay $10.00/hour. We will work around your class schedule!

Eligible students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for the fall and have completed a 22/23 FAFSA. Background clearances are required, but fees will be paid by LCCC. 

More than 20 on-campus positions are currently available for the fall semester. Student employees may begin working prior to the beginning of classes. On-campus jobs are posted online on the LCCC Cougar CLAW website. Examples include:

Self Service Banner Student & Registration Upgrade

LCCC delivers fast notifications about campus emergencies and weather closings and delays. Sign up for the Omnilert notification system here. You can sign up with any username and password you choose, then customize how you receive the alerts: text, email, phone call, or all three. Also, if you already have an account, confirm that your contact information on Omnilert is correct and up-to-date.

Preferred First Name, Pronouns and Gender Identification

It is easy to change and submit your preferred first name, pronouns and gender to LCCC. Just go to the LCCC portal. Sign in with your LCCC username and password. See the attached step-by-step instructions. If you need technical assistance, go to Student Technology Help Desk.

Set Up Your LCCC Cougar Claw Account

All students currently enrolled in credit courses have an LCCC Cougar CLAW account. Please follow these steps to set up a password. 

• See job postings from local employers
• Apply to jobs
• Upload documents such as resumes and cover letters for review
• View upcoming Career Development events.

How To Set-Up Your Account in The Cougar CLAW:

1. Go to https://lccc-csm.symplicity.com/students/.
2. Click on the "Forgot Password" button.
3. Complete the form by listing your Username/Student ID number which begins with a capital L followed by 8 digits.
4. An email from "careerservices" containing a link will immediately be sent to your LCCC email account. Within 24 hours of receiving the email, click on the link provided to create a new password. This email is only valid for 24 hours.
5. You now have completed the set-up process for your account in The Cougar CLAW!

Disability Support for Classes

Students with disabilities may qualify for academic accommodations at LCCC. If you had an IEP or 504 plan in high school or have a diagnosed disability, please reach out to Disability Support Services (DSS).

If you have had accommodations, remember that you need to renew them each semester. Contact DSS by emailing dss@lccc.edu or calling 610-799-1156. You can also stop by our offices in SH 150.

Fall 2022 Tutoring

The College offers free tutoring to enrolled LCCC students in a variety of subjects.

Face-to-Face tutoring is available at the Schnecksville, Allentown, and Tamaqua locations. Labs are open (walk-in), so no appointments are needed.

Remote tutoring appointments are booked online by students. LCCC tutors meet virtually through GoBoard or Zoom. Book up to 2 non-consecutive appointments a day for tutoring in the same course.

Smarthinking online tutoring is a 24/7 service free to students. Professional tutors provide both synchronous and asynchronous tutoring. Smarthinking may be accessed by clicking the link on the tutoring homepage in the portal.

SNAP and TANF Students!

If you receive SNAP or TANF you may be eligible to receive $1500 yearly in gas assistance to attend classes, $1000 in books and supplies and assistance with school supplies, photocopying and much more!



KEYS (Keystone Education Yields Success) is a grant funded educational program that allows qualified students to receive additional services and support while completing their degree at LCCC. These supports may include assistance with books and supplies, daycare, mileage and car repairs. Visit our website to learn more about the KEYS Program and how it may benefit you! Students and SNAP

Second Harvest Food Bank, has been working with the Food Access & Policy Council to encourage eligible students to take advantage of the SNAP (Food Stamps) program.

Students can contact the Second Harvest Food Bank SNAP outreach program for assistance with the application process. A SNAP Coordinator will work with students to determine eligibility and help answer any questions. 

You can also review Students-and-SNAP-FAQS to help answer frequently asked questions. Even if you believe you do not meet the Student Eligibility Criteria, you are still encouraged to apply and work with a SNAP outreach coordinator to determine your SNAP eligibility.
