The May Feedback Response Report to Student Council described the cycle of MUSM MD curriculum review and course evaluation. The cycle uses student survey, focus group and course/clerkship feedback. Feedback from the Classes of 2025 and 2026 led to changes across the curriculum in 2024-25 focused on providing students with more flexible time to meet self-directed learning and preparatory study needs.
Years 1 and 2
- Over 65% of the spring, in-person large group sessions, including biomedical sciences and PHMR sessions, were converted to required-viewing, video recordings that contain assessment questions.
- Videos were created to supplement Block 4 Module 2 monographs for multimodal learning.
- Required videos (including new topics) for the APS course will be available up front so students may use them within their individual study plans.
- In the upcoming Year 4, a second section of the Wellness course will be offered to allow earlier scheduling of away rotations.
Please see the May Student Council minutes for more details.

Celebrating Culture: Contributions to the community and medicine
As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a culturally competent educational environment, we are proud to highlight significant observances each month. This May, we recognize Cinco de Mayo, Jewish American Heritage Month, and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Join us as we honor the rich histories, medical achievements, and community contributions of these vibrant cultures.

Cinco de Mayo: May 5, 2025
The holiday celebrates the date of the Mexican army’s May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is widely interpreted as a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with substantial Mexican-American populations. Chicano activists raised awareness of the holiday in the 1960s, in part because they identified with the victory of Indigenous Mexicans (such as Juárez) over European invaders during the Battle of Puebla.

Jewish American Heritage Month
Each May, hundreds of organizations and Americans of all backgrounds join together to discover, explore, and celebrate the vibrant and varied American Jewish experience from the dawn of our nation to the present day. As we observe Jewish American Heritage Month, it's important to acknowledge the challenges faced by the Jewish community. This month provides an opportunity not only to celebrate the rich contributions of Jewish Americans to our nation but also to stand in solidarity against anti-Semitism and support those who are facing difficult times. Let's reaffirm our commitment to inclusivity, respect, and understanding for all. Learn more
