As summer continues, I invite you to join us online this Sunday for worship as we reflect upon the words of the Apostle Paul as he encouraged the church in Rome; "Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us" (Roman 8:35, 37).

I also hope that you will join us for Worship in the Park on August 2 at 9:00 a.m. or for online worship at 9:00 and 11:15 a.m. It will be a wonderful morning to praise God together, and we are honored to have Dr. Oral Moses join us to share his musical gifts and his voice with us. Dr. Moses is a friend of the church, an incredible talent, and is a retired Professor Emeritus of Kennesaw State University.

On a more personal note, my wife, Jordan, and I have slowly begun packing our home for our upcoming move to Waleska UMC. While we still have a few more weeks in Marietta until my last Sunday, August 9, each weekend we have been boxing up more of our things. I find it astounding how much stuff, or maybe I should say junk, that we have accumulated. As we were going through our storage room and determining what to pack and what to donate, we discovered some unexpected items.
  • We found a pair of Jordan's glasses from elementary school (for the record, her vision was better then).
  • We had the pleasant surprise of discovering a Savings Bond that is two years past maturity.
  • And, in a stack of blankets, I uncovered a quilt given to me many years ago.
This quilt was a gift given to me in college by my home church. Members of the congregation crafted it and prayed over it. Stitched on the quilt are the first five verses of John chapter 1, where we are told that Christ comes into the world as the light of the world. The quilt brought back fond memories of the church and the people who taught me about Christ's unconditional love and grace. For me, this quilt also serves as a meaningful reminder of something we all need to hear; that no matter where we are or what we are going through, Christ is with us and is the light of the world.

See you online this Sunday,

ONE FAITH, MANY VOICES
BEGINS AUGUST 23
Please mark your calendar for this meaningful musical offering,  "One Faith, Many Voices."

There are many wonderful music traditions here at Marietta First, but one of the most beloved is the series “One Faith, Many Voices,” where we explore different cultures and styles of music in worship.

Normally this series occupies the 4 Sundays of August, but this fall will instead take place once a month. The celebration begins August 23, with a morning of Bluegrass music.

New this year is an exploration of “ World Music ” on September 20, followed by African American Spirituals on October 8, and concludes with a day of Southern Gospel music on November 8.

Please mark your calendars for these upcoming “One Faith, Many Voices” events.
