Our Vision Statement

Confirmation Class - 10am Sundays

in the Great Room

Every young adult in our congregation who is roughly between 12 and 15 is welcome to come and explore faith with Rhod Sharp and Dee Burgett. Subject to their participation in at least half of the classes offered, we look forward to welcoming eighth graders and above who have expressed a desire to be confirmed into the full communion of the church next May. Anyone from seventh grade on is welcome at these morning sessions, which are timed to coincide with the 10 o'clock service. A new element of class this year will involve visits for intending confirmands to other houses of worship.

This season, Festival Chorus Christmas Concerts-presented as part of the annual Marblehead Christmas Walk-will take place on Saturday and Sunday evenings, December 1 and 2, in the sanctuary at Old North Church. The Old North Festival Orchestra, Soloists and one hundred-voice Chorus will be led by Maria van Kalken, Minister of Music at Old North Church, who is celebrating her 30th season as Director of the Festival Chorus!

Outreach Ministry Board Update

The Outreach Ministry Board met on October 16th . We received a briefing from Benjamin Day and Teri McDonough from the Marblehead Counseling Center. We have maintained a close relationship with the Center for many years. The briefing reaffirmed the need in our community for this special resource which enables access to mental health counseling. The Counseling Center, which continues to rely on donations and pro bono expert participation, will be marking their 50th anniversary in 2019.

We discussed emergency disaster relief funding. For hurricane Michael relief we agreed to donate $500 each to the Church World Service and Samaritan's Purse. We have already donated $1000 to hurricane Florence relief through the UCC Disaster Fund and $500 to the Merrimack Valley gas explosions fund of the Massachusetts Conference of UCC.

Richard Thibedeau briefed the meeting on the progress of the RIM Welcome the Stranger project. Danie and Annie have now been joined by her husband Virgil on a six month visa and Danie has a regular job as a Nurse's assistant. Old North Church and our partners are working on the goal of Danie and her family to be self-sufficient by the end of December. All partners have agreed that they would be unlikely to embark on a similar project again because of the required commitments of volunteer time, finances and complex legal issues. However all agree that the project has been a success. It has made a huge difference to several lives and stimulated cooperation between our congregations.

There is agreement that discussions will continue to broaden such cooperation in areas like Welcome the Stranger where we can help in the local community. To take this forward our Outreach Ministry Board will host representatives of St Andrews and Temple Emanu-el at our next meeting in November.

We would like to hear about new funding opportunities for organizations at home or overseas where we see an opportunity to assist with our outreach ministry funds. Please let me or Tom Day know about any such opportunity. Or email me at [email protected] . Paul Hare

Festival Youth Chorus
Calling all singers in grades 4-8! There is still time to register for the award-winning Old North Festival Youth Chorus, directed by Sarah Del Dotto. Singers are rehearsing now to prepare a high energy, professional-quality set as participants in the 38th annual Festival Chorus Christmas concerts on December 1 and 2. Rehearsals are from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  For more information about Festival Chorus or Old North Youth Choirs, please contact Sarah at: [email protected].

College Cod Care Kit
Let's Connect With Our College Kids!
In an effort to bond with our ONC college students, and to make them feel warm and fuzzy while they're away from home, the Community Life Ministry Board is looking for volunteers to send a small care package -- home baked or store bought -- to a student member of our church community, once in the fall and once in the spring (we can help provide ideas for package items if needed). Also, if you'd like to include your college-aged children in the program, please let us know. Thank you! Deb Tyrrell, [email protected] (617-283-1795), Diane Caldwell, [email protected] (781-367-6145).
Greeters are Needed!
The Community Life Ministry Board is looking for Greeters to host the Greeter/Welcome Table in the Narthex before the 10:00 am church services. Hosts greet people, offer nametags to those who need them, and help direct new members/visitors who may need assistance. We ask those hosting the Greeter/Welcome Table to please arrive at 9:30 am for set up. Individuals, friends, families, everyone is welcome to host the Greeter Table. It's fun! Get to know your church family while providing a valuable service! If you have questions, please contact Linda Davis at [email protected], 781-639-0405. Thank you so much!
Marblehead Food Pantry
November is Our Month to Stock the Shelves!
As we have done for many years, ONC has made a commitment to fill the shelves of the Marblehead Food Pantry during the month of November. During this month of Thanksgiving, it is a wonderful opportunity for us to show how thankful we are for the blessings we have been given and for us to make sure that others in the community, many of whom are less fortunate, will also be provided for. At each of the Sunday services, brown bags will be available, together with a list of suggested items to fill the bags. Filled bags may either be returned to the Narthex, or if it is more convenient, left in the hall way at Stacey Street. The Outreach Ministry Board will be responsible for delivering the bags to the Marblehead Food Pantry.

Suggested items: canned fruit and vegetables, canned/bottled/packaged fruit juices, coffee, tea bags, canned/bottled nuts, pasta, rice, pasta mixes, pesto, ragu, soups, gravy, canned tuna or chicken, salad dressings, crackers, cookies, cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, soaps, laundry & personal items, diapers, shaving equipment, toothpaste, tooth brushes, deodorant. Any non-perishable items are always appreciated. If you have any queries please contact Lynda Hare at 781-639-0107 or [email protected].

Thank you in advance for your generosity! Lynda Hare on behalf of the Outreach Ministry Board.

Candidates must have some experience with childcare, be willing to work with a team, provide references, be 18 years or older, and be able to pass a CORI background check. Pay is $30/Sunday. If you are interested, please contact Karen Kilty, our Director of Children's Ministries at [email protected].
Coffee with Karla!
