Worship Returns to the Old North Church Sanctuary
at 10am

It’s been a very long time since we’ve been able to worship on a regular basis in the Sanctuary at Old North Church. We’re eager to return, but we are mindful that the recent surge in Covid cases in and around Marblehead requires our sustained vigilance and willingness to follow the recommendations and protocols from public health officials. The church Leadership Board, after consulting our Covid Advisory Team is delighted to add another opportunity for in-person worship each week.

We have now added an in-person 10am service in the sanctuary. Since the health and safety of all our members and friends is of paramount importance, we will be requiring face masks and social distancing for those attending. The service will include music provided by our soloists. The sanctuary windows will be open and fans will be assisting with ventilation. Children of all ages are welcome to attend our worship services with their families, but must be masked if 2 years old or above. There will be outdoor Sunday school once a month.

Please note that no nursery care is being provided during our services.

In-person worship services will continue at the Lighthouse at 8am on Sunday mornings through the end of October, and on the church parking lot after that. We will continue to post videos of our weekly worship services on our YouTube channel (Old North Church Marblehead) and on Facebook (Friends of Old North Church, Marblehead). The videos will be posted on Sunday afternoons.

We look forward to seeing you in church, however you feel most comfortable joining us!

Music Program News

All participants in the Old North Church Music programs are eager to gather in person to make music together, but must once again, be patient. We will continue to monitor recommendations throughout the coming weeks, and make the best, most responsible, and safest decisions for our ensembles, including the Senior Choir, Festival Chorus, Bell Choir and Youth Music programs.

The Music Committee has good news to report! After a busy summer of auditions for three (3) open soloist positions at Old North, we are thrilled to welcome two new soloists – both of whom are as charming as they are gifted!  Gabriela Fagenalto/mezzo-soprano– who recently completed her Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music – will serve as our new alto soloist.

And, Daniel Fridley – bass, who just completed his Doctoral of Musical Arts from the Case Western Reserve University Historical Practice program in Cleveland Ohio – will serve as our bass soloist.

Happily, Holly Cameron, our phenomenal soprano soloist will return for another season! And, with upcoming auditions yet to consider, the search for a tenor soloist is still in play.

We are delighted with our trio of professional singers who will continue to lift up our cherished music program! We are so grateful for the opportunity to hear them in person, at our 10AM Sunday Worship services, and look forward to experiencing "live" music once again in our beautiful sanctuary.

ONC Faithful Families/Children’s Church
From Karen Kilty, Director of Children’s Ministries

Although we will not be gathering our Children in the classrooms right now, we are planning time together with children and their families for outside activities for connecting with one another and growing in faith.

I hope you will join us for a Hike and time for walking in wonder, with Don Morgan at Hawthorn Pond on September 26 at 11:15. We will meet at the entrance of the trail on Hawthorn Road.

Please note: Masks, social distancing and sign up are required. Please RSVP to me at kwilty@gmail.com.

I look forward to being together!

Bible Study on Paul Starts This Sunday at 11:15

We're excited to do some learning together this fall about Paul--and would love to have you join! We'll begin a Bible study on Paul this Sunday, Sept 19, at 11:15.

Paul wrote most of the New Testament, but many of us have little familiarity with his life and teachings. Join together for a Bible study on Paul where we will read a book about Paul: “Paul: A Very Short Introduction” by E. P. Sanders, alongside biblical passages he wrote.

Let Lindsay know if you’re interested so we can order books for you (lindsaypopper@gmail.com or 423-863-8251).

We will meet outside, weather-permitting, or in a well-ventilated Room with masks on.

Capital Campaign Update

Now that summer has passed, we’re gearing up to begin the active phase of our capital campaign. Jill White, our campaign consultant will be conducting a feasibility study in the next few weeks. She’ll be making phone calls to a cross-section of people in the congregation to assess the level of support for the campaign. The forty-five minute phone calls will be conducted Monday – Thursday, September 27th – 30th. If you are asked to be among those interviewed, please say yes! Your input is crucial. Thanks in advance for your help in this important effort in the life of Old North Church.
Community Life Ministry Board Survey

We are more than excited to be returning to the Sanctuary for the 10.00 am service after all these many months of being away. The group of medical experts who have been advising us have given the go ahead for this to happen. Safety protocols will be in place to include social distancing and the wearing of a mask at all times whilst in the Sanctuary. It is also strongly advised that only vaccinated people attend.  For the time being, the Parish Hall is not going to be used.

As we move forward into the colder months and away from the 8.00 am lighthouse service and to help committees with future planning, we would welcome your views on the following questions and indeed any other comments that you might have.

Please submit your answers to either Lindsay at Lindsay@onchurch.org Linda Duvel at linda.bill.duvel@gmail.com or Lynda Hare at hares8carrots@hotmail.com

1). Would you prefer to gather outside on the patio with, or without, a cup of coffee?
2). Would you be interested in participating in outdoor church activities such as a historical walk or a scavenger hunt in town?
3). Comments or ideas on how you think we can safely enrich the experience of being together, safely, again.

We are really looking forward to seeing you at the lighthouse or in the Sanctuary.

Submitted on behalf of the Community Life Ministry Board.
