Crosby’s Abundance Helps Lifebridge Feed the Homeless and Needy

Beginning when Carl Pearson asked a Crosby Market stocking person “what happens to the food that you are taking off the shelf and putting in a cart”and then first organized by Peggy Munro, the Crosby Lifebridge Food run is entering into its 9th year. Monday through Friday, an ONC member or a fellow traveler transfers one day old produce from Crosby’s Market Place in Marblehead to Lifebridge in Salem. Each year, thousands and thousands pounds of fresh fruit, vegetables and baked goods that would have been thrown into the garbage bin are used to feed the homeless and the hungry. This donated product is magically turned into wholesome meals through the skilled hands of Lifebridge’s Kitchen Manager Karen Andrew and volunteers. Like a Swiss Watch, the food run has been able to continue in its daily service to Lifebridge throughout the Corvid 19 pandemic. A big thank you to Crosby Market Place and especially to Katarina the Marblehead store manager to allow this transfer to occur and to organize internal store logistics to make it happen.

The intrepid band of drivers includes Jill Dearborn, Janet Doyle, Bill Duvel, Don Gardner, George Gearhart, Mimi Hollister, Holly Jannell, Paul and Lynda Hare, Patty MacLeod, Richard Thibedeau, Tom and Donna Scott and Ginny Von Rueden.

If you have any questions please call Holly Jannell at 781.631.2550.

The Marblehead Ministerial Association, of which Old North is a member, is sponsoring a fund raiser concert, “Shelter My Soul”, on Saturday, June 25, 7 to 10 pm at the Veterans Middle School auditorium, to help the Lynn Shelter complete its fine renovations for healthier and friendlier housing for people who find themselves homeless. Our assist is to help them over the finish line. We, in the Marblehead houses of worship are more than grateful that Lynn and Salem and Beverly, our surrounding communities, take care of, for us, the population that is without a place to live. We invite you to share in this gratitude by being a sponsor or buying tickets to the concert on June 25th or making a donation. Tickets can be purchased from Mimi Hollister (781-910-2376) on Sunday after worship ; at Arnould’s Gallery on Washington St.; at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church; and the Marblehead Counseling Center. Call Mimi for the many levels of sponsorship details. Checks should be made out to Lynn Shelter Association with” Shelter My Soul” on the memo line. You can also mail a check to Lynn Shelter Association, 100 Willow St., Lynn, MA 01901.
