Worship Returns to the Old North Church Sanctuary on Sunday, September 12th!
It’s been a very long time since we’ve been able to worship on a regular basis in the sanctuary at Old North Church. We’re eager to return, but we are mindful that the recent surge in Covid cases in and around Marblehead requires our sustained vigilance and willingness to follow the recommendations and protocols from public health officials. The church Leadership Board, after consulting our Covid Advisory Team is delighted to add another opportunity for in-person worship each week.
Beginning on Sunday, September 12th, we will be adding an in-person
10 am service in the sanctuary. Since the health and safety of all our members and friends is of paramount importance, we will be requiring face masks and social distancing for those attending. The service will include music provided by our soloists and congregational singing while wearing our masks. The sanctuary windows will be open and fans will be assisting with ventilation. Children of all ages are welcome to attend our worship services with their families, but must be masked if 2 years old or above. There will be outdoor Sunday school once a month. Please note that no nursery care is being provided during our services.
In-person worship services will continue at the Lighthouse at 8 am on Sunday mornings through the end of October, and on the church parking lot after that. We will continue to post videos of our weekly worship services on our YouTube channel (Old North Church Marblehead) and on Facebook (Friends of Old North Church, Marblehead).
We look forward to seeing you in church, however you feel most comfortable joining us!

ONC Reading and Discussion Group - September 8th

The next meeting of the Old North Reading and Discussion Group on Preserving Our Democracy and Environment will be on Wednesday, September 8th, from 8:30 to 10:00 AM. This is the latest of a series of meetings on this subject that have been hosted for all by the ONC Men’s Group. The discussions are supported by background reading assignments. You are invited to participate regardless of the amount of reading you have done or whether you have attended a previous meeting. At this meeting we will be discussing several articles instead of a book. For a list of articles, please send a request to dbcc@comcast.net. The meeting will be hosted on Zoom. Those who have completed their COVID-19 vaccinations and are willing to wear a mask will be able to attend in person in the “Great Room” of the ONC Annex at 8 Stacey Street.

Bible Study on Paul

Paul wrote most of the New Testament, but many of us have little familiarity with his life and teachings. Join together for a Bible study on Paul where we will read a book about Paul: “Paul: A Very Short Introduction” by
E. P. Sanders, alongside biblical passages he wrote.

We’ll start on Sunday Sept 19 at 11:15 (if there’s interest in a 9am group as well, we can have a second cohort that meets then). Let Lindsay know if you’re interested so we can order books for you (lindsaypopper@gmail.com or 423-863-8251).

We will meet outside, weather-permitting, or in a well-ventilated Room with masks on.

Outreach Ministry Board News

The Outreach Ministry Board has just donated funds to support the relief work after the recent earthquake in Haiti. It donated to two organizations - Partners in Health and the Haiti Development Institute which is affiliated to the Boston Foundation.

A Blessing for Back to School and Returning to Work Places

Loving God, Bless the backpacks and masks for the children, youth and adults who will carry them and wear them as they begin another year of school, new programs and work in this time of pandemic.
Give them peace when they feel worried, focus them when they feel distracted, energy to take on the day when they feel tired, and perhaps, overwhelmed when it feels hard.

Open their minds to the lessons and new experiences they will encounter.

Help them to make friends that build one another up and be friends to those who need them.

Guide them in making good and safe choices as they grow in their wisdom. Open them to be aware of your presences when in the classroom, playground, at home and at work, knowing your love and care in all they do. Praise be to God, Amen

Anti-Racism Accountability Group

A small group of Old Northers are continuing to meet to hold ourselves accountable to doing anti-racism work in our own lives. Throughout the summer, we will be meeting in person on the 3rd Monday evening of the month at a group member's house; we'd love to have you join us.
