Worship This Summer

It’s been fourteen months since we’ve been able to gather in-person in our beloved sanctuary. But things are changing: we are now gathering for worship at the Marblehead Lighthouse – as long as it’s not raining – at 8 am every Sunday morning. If it is raining, our service will be held in the Sanctuary. If you can’t join us at Chandler Hovey Park, you can continue to join us in cyberspace. Our on-line summer services will have a different look and feel than what we’ve gotten used to for the past year: we’ll be filming our Lighthouse service each week, then posting it to our YouTube channel (Old North Church Marblehead) and Facebook page (Friends of Old North Church Marblehead.) We hope you’ll join us for worship this week and every week, whether in-person at the Lighthouse or on-line!
Welcome the Stranger

Welcome the Stranger Partnership of Old North Church, Temple Emanu-el and St Andrews Episcopal Church is entering its fifth year.

The focus of the partnership the past year has been working with Catholic Charities to help settle U.S. State Department sponsored refugee families by furnishing apartments which Catholic Charities has found for them to live in. We have helped ten families from countries all over the world. Assistance has also been given to the Lynn Shelter Association.

At the same time, we have continued to walk with Danie and her family as they continue to settle in this country. The terrific news on their front is now Danie’s entire family has been safely reunited here in Marblehead.

Danie came to America with her youngest daughter Annie in 2016. Her husband Virgile joined them in 2018. Her oldest daughter Djahimara remained in Haiti with her grandmother while efforts continued to get a U.S. visa for her. Those efforts paid off in 2021; and she recently arrived at Logan Airport falling into the loving arms of her mother, father and younger sister.

Danie extends her sincere thanks for all the assistance she and her family have received from members of Old North Church.

Old North Book Discussion Group
Wednesday, July 14th 8:30-10:00 am

The next meeting of the Old North Reading and Discussion Group on Preserving our Democracy and Environment will be on Wednesday,
July 14th from 8:30 to 10:00 AM. This is the latest of a series of meetings on preservation of our democracy and environment that have been hosted for all by the ONC Men’s Group. The discussions are supported by background reading assignments. You are invited to participate regardless of the amount of reading you have done or whether you have attended a previous meeting.

At this meeting we will focus on the second four and last chapters of the recent book by Prof. Benjamin Friedman, Religion and the Rise of Capitalism, Jan 2021.

For those who have completed their COVID-19 vaccinations, the meeting will be in the “Great Room” of the ONC Annex at 8 Stacey Street. Special arrangements, to be announced, will be made also for Zoom attendance.
Anti-Racism Accountability Group

A small group of Old Northers are continuing to meet to hold ourselves accountable to doing anti-racism work in our own lives. Throughout the summer, we will be meeting in person on the 3rd Monday evening of the month at a group member's house; we'd love to have you join us.
