The COVID risk level is HIGH in Marblehead and the surrounding area, according to the CDC and the Marblehead Board of Public Health. For the time being, we urge all who attend worship to wear high-quality masks (eg, KN95, N95 or KF94). The choir will continue to wear masks while singing.

All members of the Old North Church clergy, staff and choir have been vaccinated against Covid-19. We expect you to be vaccinated as well. For information on the vaccine or how to be vaccinated, please go to www.mass.gov/covid-19

Summer Worship Service at Chandler Hovey Park
Begins Sunday, June 19

New Interim Minister

The Interim Search Committee is happy to announce that Reverend Don Remick will be our new Interim Minister. We received applications from several strong candidates and completed thorough interviews with the most highly qualified, followed by a unanimous vote for our first choice. What a blessing! Don will start part-time on June 6th and full-time on September 5th.

During his 15 years serving as Senior Minister at the First Congregational Church in Hanover, MA, Don shared the pulpit with talented associates, led two Sunday services and oversaw a capital campaign, making him a great fit for Old North. We found him to be warm, articulate, and insightful as he eagerly shared his thoughts on how to lead us through this time of transition.

During part of Don's four decades of ministry he served on our Conference staff as Associate Conference Minister and Conference Minister. During that time he was responsible for developing programs to help churches with visioning and vitality, supervising staff and gathering resources to guide churches in their search processes, and training and resourcing interim ministers.

Don and his wife, who is also a pastor, have three children and three grandchildren.

For the past four years Don has primarily been doing interim work, and he will be completing his time at the First Congregational Church in Randolph during the summer. We anticipate that his first day preaching at Old North will be on Sunday, September 11th. If you have any questions, please contact Bonnie MacDonald at bonnietim@comcast.net or John Meakin at jgmeakin@icloud.com.
ONC Reading and Discussion Group
Wednesday, June 15th

The next meeting of the Old North Reading and Discussion Group on Preserving Our Democracy and Environment will be on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, from 8:30 to 10:00 AM. This is the latest of a series of meetings on this subject that have been hosted for all by the ONC Men’s Group. The discussions are supported by background reading. You are invited to participate regardless of the amount of your preparation or whether you have attended a previous meeting. For the June meeting we will finish discussing the book by Ray Dalio, Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order: Why Nations Succeed and Fail, Simon & Schuster, 30 Nov 2021. This book is particularly relevant to the situation in the world today, with all its evident instabilities. We will also begin discussing the book by Carlo Ravalli, There Are Places in the World Where Rules Are Less Important Than Kindness, Penguin, 8 Nov 2018.

The meeting will be held on Zoom. To join the meeting, click on

Monthly Bell Ringing to Call Awareness About Climate Change

ONC and several other churches that are part of the Marblehead Ministerial Association continue with the ringing of their bells at 11am on the 11th of the month for 11 minutes to call attention to the need to take 11th hour action about the climate crisis. In doing so, we are joining this important initiative which was started earlier this year by churches in Cambridge and Cape Ann to ring their bells on the 11th of each month.

The United Nations Climate Report issued in February found that climate change is happening even faster than anticipated and drastic action is needed now. Coastal communities such as ours are especially vulnerable to the effects of climate change.

How you can make a difference:
  • Contact your elected officials and urge them to support environmental initiatives.
  • Research environmental positions of candidates this Fall. Vote accordingly!
  • Walk, Bike, Carpool & use Public Transportation whenever possible.
  • Turn off your computer and appliances when not in use.
  • Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
  • Visit http://www.sustainablemarblehead.org/in-your-home for more ideas for reducing your carbon footprint.

Anyone wishing to volunteer as a monthly bell ringer for climate action should contact Mimi Hollister (mimi.hollister@aol.com or 781-910-2376).
SHELTER MY SOUL – A Concert

The Marblehead Ministerial Association, of which Old North is a member, is sponsoring a fund raiser concert, “Shelter My Soul”, on Saturday, June 25, 7 to 10 pm at the Veterans Middle School auditorium, to help the Lynn Shelter complete its fine renovations for healthier and friendlier housing for people who find themselves homeless. Our assist is to help them over the finish line. We, in the Marblehead houses of worship are more than grateful that Lynn and Salem and Beverly, our surrounding communities, take care of, for us, the population that is without a place to live. We invite you to share in this gratitude by being a sponsor or buying tickets to the concert on June 25th. Tickets can be purchased from Mimi Hollister (781-910-2376) ; at Arnould’s Gallery on Washington St.; at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church; and the Marblehead Counseling Center. Call Mimi for the many levels of sponsorship details.

For those who wish to support this but are concerned about covid exposure, please make your check out to Lynn Shelter Association and send it to Mimi Hollister, 7 Glover Square, Marblehead.
