Jazz Sunday - May 23rd

Please join us this week - Sunday, May 23- for “Jazz Sunday” which will be offered virtually on the Old North Church Youtube channel. “Music Sunday” is our annual service dedicated to worship through music and for the past few years has been dedicated to a celebration of sacred jazz.

Our online service will feature guest artists: Doug Olsen, trumpet; Dave Clark, bass; Mark Shilansky, piano and Old North vocalists, Holly Cameron and Stephanie Scarcella. The musicians will pre-record music for this very special service in the Old North Sanctuary using current protocols for health and safety.
8am Service at the Lighthouse
With the arrival of Spring, we are pleased to return to the Lighthouse at Chandler Hovey Park for our in-person weekly worship service at 8am. If it is raining, the service will be moved to the church parking lot on Stacey Street, where it will be broadcast in the FM radio band. (Remember to look for the sandwich board sign at the entrance to Devereaux Beach: if it’s green, the service is on at the Lighthouse; if it’s red, head back to the church parking lot.) PLEASE NOTE: the restrooms at Chandler Hovey Park will NOT be open until Memorial Day weekend. Plan accordingly!
While many of us have received the Covid vaccination, we will continue to observe the protocols recommended by the CDC and Massachusetts Department of Health. By all means, if you are experiencing Covid symptoms, please remain at home and join us for our virtual worship services, which we will continue to post on YouTube and Facebook at 8 am on Sunday mornings.
Meanwhile, we are moving ahead with our plan for cleaning the sanctuary, parish hall, classrooms and offices in preparation for regathering in-person in the Fall. Watch this space for details. For now, let’s give thanks for the opportunity to gather in the cathedral of God’s great outdoors!
Stewardship Season Update

As you know, the challenge of financing our mission and ministry is ongoing, especially during the disruptions of the Covid pandemic. We are deeply grateful for those of you who have been able to sustain your financial support. If you are able and have not yet done so, we hope you will continue your support of Old North Church. We encourage you to return your pledge card to the church office, or pledge online at your earliest convenience. A letter went out to those who have pledged in the past, but have not as yet for the current year. We hope to complete our pledge drive by the end of May. As of May 20th, we have received 242 pledges for the current year, totaling $426,552. Thanks to all who have pledged your support to Old North Church!
Volunteers are Needed for ONC Boards

Recall, our church is organized and governed by a number of officers, a Leadership Board, and four Ministry Boards: Christian Formation, Community Life, Outreach, and Prudential. So far this year, thirty-six of our fellow church members have volunteered to continue their service as an officer or board member in the coming 2021-2022 church year. Only one new volunteer has stepped up. We need three new members for our Leadership Board, and two or three new members for Prudential. Prudential especially needs a person with fund raising experience or ideas, and a woman for more gender balance.  Please contact Dave Hostetter on the informal “Nominating Committee” to learn how you might be able to serve our church as a needed new board member. Dave can be reached at daveh.racer@gmail.com or by text to 781-631-3216.
Save the Date: 2021 Springling
June 19 from 2 - 4pm

Please mark your calendar 19 June 2021 from 2 - 4 and join us for the first annual Old North Springling!   This is a great opportunity for us to be together at a beautiful location. So bring your chairs, snacks and drinks and have some fun! We will gather at the Goldthwait Marsh and in Covid friendly ways, for those who want to show off their skills at kite flying, bean bag toss, 3 legged racing, rubber horseshoes, frisbee, potato and spoon and so many other fun games, this could be your moment to shine. And if you happen to have your own favorite game, then please bring that too!

In accordance with State Covid restrictions there will be a cap on attendance so we respectfully invite you to sign up early to guarantee a place for you and your family. We ask that you respond by Memorial Day/May 31 please.  You may do so by contacting Linda Duvel (linda.bill.duvel@gmail.com) or Lynda Hare (hares8carrots@hotmail.com). We hope to see you there!
Prayer Shawl Knitters are Needed

Knitters needed for restocking baptism shawls! The baptism list at ONC is growing for summer of 2021, a hopeful and joyous sign. If you are a knitter familiar with knit and purl please contact Alexandra Garfield at alexandradane@me.com and I will supply you with the prayer shawl baptism pattern and yarn. Hopefully we will be able to gather by the end of the year and knit together again — until then, thank you for knitting for our church community.
Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of the Church will be held on Wednesday, June 23rd at 7pm via Zoom. The link to participate in the meeting will be sent closer to the meeting date.

Board and Committee reports are due to the church office (office@onchurch.org) no later than Wednesday, May 26. For reference, last year's annual report may be accessed by clicking here. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Nahatis in the church office at office@onchurch.org
It's Time for an Update!

The Community Life Ministry Board invites you to help us with an update to the Church Directory. The last one was issued in 2018 and we all know that much has changed since then. Several members of CLMB will be calling or emailing the 500+ friends and members of ONC between now and the end of April to verify and/or update telephone, address and email information. We plan to gather all of the updated information by May 1, print over the summer and distribute when we, hopefully, return in person in the fall. This project is a big undertaking especially because we want to complete this update in-house in order to save on printing expenses. Therefore, we're asking everyone to be as helpful as possible by taking our calls, returning voicemail requests, and responding to email requests when asked. If you have any questions or would like to give us your information before you're contacted, please call or email either:

Linda Duvel, 781-631-1703 linda.bill.duvel@gmail.com
Lynda Hare, 781-639-0107 hares8carrots@hotmail.com.

Thanks in advance for all your cooperation.
Anti-Racism Accountability Group

A group of Old North Church folks are committing to get together regularly to hold ourselves accountable to doing anti-racism work in our own lives. This will be a time for sharing and accountability about how we are participating in the work Jesus calls us to do in unraveling white supremacy--whether that's confronting racist language in our families and friends, supporting Black organizers in the local area, immersing ourselves in learning from people of color, or many other things. We're still figuring this out, and we'd love for you to be on the journey with us.

Join us via this Zoom Link:
