For those unable to join us in person, there will be a live videocast of
the worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays.

If you miss the live service, you can find it archived on YouTube.
Cautiously Optimistic!

By Sunday, June 20th, we expect to offer full capacity seating in the sanctuary and to end the requirement for making advance reservations. Hurrah! Enjoy worship with as at 10:30 a.m. in a service that honors Father's Day and features musical leadership by Lori Rivera and Luke Shepherd.

However, the jury is still out on whether we'll need to wear masks while indoors with a crowd. Most of us may be vaccinated, but many aren't, some can't, and Covid is still a very real danger in this country and around the world. We'll let you know in next week's newsletter about the advice we get from county health officials.
Interfaith Pride Service
Celebrate Pride with the interfaith community, Sunday, June 13, 3 p.m., outside Calvary Church, 532 Center St., Santa Cruz. There will be poetry, song and celebration organized by Out In Our Faith, an interfaith coalition of which Peace United Church is a founding member.
In Service at Peace United?

Opportunities are open for YOU to be heard at the conference tables and Zoom
screens of Church Leadership.

Ever felt like you couldn’t understand why decisions were made, or not made, at Peace United Church of Christ? Put yourself in there! We are Congregationalists, translated means “we do it ourselves, and learn from and with each other, trusting in the Love of God”.

It’s surprising, rewarding, fun, challenging, a true privilege, not too easy, and you
can do it! Interested? Let’s talk about how YOU can serve.

Please contact the Nominating Committee and/or our Pastor.

More Peace Village News, The Council and Housing Implementation (HIP) Team are initiating a series of informational meetings at which the status of the Peace Village Amended and restated Preliminary Development Schedule Agreement (A&RPDSA), the Pro-forma Ground Lease, and the financial models will be described and analyzed for attendees. Attendees will be able to ask questions. We intend to record the meetings and publish the Questions and Answers so the proceedings can be viewed by others unable to attend...READ MORE
Apartment Reimagined!

Buildings and Grounds proudly announces the completion of more than a year’s creative effort to transform our 60+ year-old and flood-prone former custodian’s living quarters into a spiffy one-bedroom home. The completely remodeled kitchen with new appliances is open to the living area for more space. We have added a washer and dryer and new furnace, as well as all new windows and coverings.

When the final inspections and permitting are complete, we will welcome a new Peace neighbor through the HUD-VASH program. The unit will be Section 8, administered by the local Veteran’s program, offering a home (and a designated parking place) to a currently homeless vet.

If you missed the open house last Sunday, come by June 13th or 20th after church. Karen, Roger, Jane, Bill, George, and other B&G team members will show you around. You might want to chat about possible summer or fall buildings and grounds projects. We create, maintain, and reimagine the campus as well as build friendships and learn new skills.

Poetry at Peace

“All My Friends Are Finding New Beliefs”
by Christian Wiman:

All my friends are finding new beliefs.
This one converts to Catholicism and this one to trees.
In a highly literary and hitherto religiously-indifferent Jew
God whomps on like a genetic generator.
Paleo, Keto, Zone, South Beach, Bourbon.
Exercise regimens so extreme she merges with machine.
One man marries a woman twenty years younger
and twice in one brunch uses the word verdant;
another’s brick-fisted belligerence gentles
into dementia, and one, after a decade of finical feints and teases
like a sandpiper at the edge of the sea,
decides to die.
Priesthoods and beasthoods, sombers and glees,
high-styled renunciations and avocations of dirt,
sobrieties, satieties, pilgrimages to the very bowels of being …

Many Blessings,

Bonnie Lange

if you listen carefully, you can hear her breathing."

Vera Taylor Scholarship Fund

Each year, the Vera Taylor Scholarship Committee at Peace United awards scholarships to members who meet the eligibility criteria and submit their applications for review no later than June 30, 2021.

Through our Vera Taylor Scholarship Program, we are fortunate to provide financial help to Peace UCC members with continuing education expenses. Last year, we provided six scholarships.

Elias Gilbert, who was one of the scholars, shares his first year experience at Yale University.

Application forms can be obtained by emailing Chris Wellens, Vera Taylor Committee,Chris@Wellens.com. Current Vera Taylor Committee members are Karen Cozza and Chris Wellens. If you are interested in helping with this committee, we would welcome new members. Contact Chris or Karen at Kacozza@gmail.com

O Lord God,
who has called us Your servants
to ventures of which we cannot see the ending,
by paths as yet untrodden
and through perils unknown;
Give us faith to go out with good courage,
not knowing where we go,
but only that Your hand is leading us
and Your love supporting us. Amen

We Want Your Face!

Most of us cringe when we see ourselves in photos, but you probably have one photo that shows your face the way you would like other people to see it. We want that photo for our records! Pastor Dave especially is interested in having a pictorial record because there are so many of you he hasn't yet been able to meet in person.

Here's how you do it...please email Devon a digital photo of yourself and she will take care of the rest! Thank you. We look forward to "seeing" you soon.
Office Hours!

Some days we're on campus, some days we're remote, but 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, staff are attending to the business of our church office: monitoring e-mail, answering telephones and/or responding to messages, working on the dozens of different projects and connections that keep our ministry moving forward. You can reach us by e-mail, office@PeaceUnited.org, or by phone, 831-426-2010.

Pastor Dave also is working out of the church office, Monday through Thursday, and most weeks will have office hours on Saturday too, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday is his day off. In case of emergency, the pastor is available by cell phone, 773-255-8095. If you would like to schedule a meeting or would like to "drop by", please contact us via email using this link to make an arrangement.

Buildings & Grounds Needs Your
"Free Service Tags"

Every City of Santa Cruz resident with refuse service gets four “Free Service Tags” annually, good for extra curbside trash or a free “dump run” at the city dump. Most of us don’t need these tags and they remain unused.

Your Buildings and Grounds team can put these Tags to good use, though! As you might imagine, our 6-acre campus generates a lot more yard waste than will fit in the curbside carts, and we make frequent dump runs.

If you have City “Free Service Tags” that you won’t use, please consider donating them to the church. Just mail or drop them off at the church office, and receive our heartfelt thanks!
