Only members of the Church Council are eligible to vote.

United Methodist Respond to Cries for Racial Justice

The bishops of the Southeastern Jurisdiction have written a pastoral letter. This is an exert from that letter

We call on the people called Methodists to live fully into our baptismal vows to renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of our sin. We believe that the would of our nation needs to be examined which means that each person, individually, needs to engage in self-examination. Self-examination includes educating oneself about the roots of racism from slavery to lynching to racial segregation and Jim Crow to contemporary presumptions of guilt, incarceration, and police violence. God calls us individually and collectively to take action. In our Baptism we are called to accept the freedom and power given by God to resist evil, injustice, and oppression, however, wherever, and wherever they are present.
God Moments
"You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." ( Psalm 16:11 )

Calling all congregants!

Share your God moments with  Joyce Munt , so others might see the light of Christ.

From Pender Organist, Ann Rollins

As the pandemic is continuing to affect us and our entire world, Ann Rollins has been trying to bring a little extra dose of joy and comfort to others through her God-given gift of musical talent.

Her husband, Lloyd, has been videotaping Ann playing hymns on her piano at home; and she has been sharing these videos with others through Facebook. Each time, Ann chooses hymns that she feels God is laying on her heart to play.

In response to one of the hymns she recently shared, Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, a friend she knew back in 1998 reached out to Ann to let her know what a blessing it was for her.

According to her friend, the song is her and her husband’s favorite hymn; and they had just found out her husband has terminal cancer. God’s timing is amazing!

Ann is feeling blessed to know the Lord is using her to bring comfort to others, especially to this friend from long ago who has a difficult road ahead.
2020 Bible Challenge
Bishop Lewis has been encouraging the clergy and laity of the Virginia Conference to read the Bible in a year since 2017.

For 2020, Bishop Lewis is challenging the entire conference to read the Bible with a thematic reading plan.

The thematic plan is found on  www.intentionalbygrace.com  and Bishop Lewis has selected the following themes below for 2020. Links are provided below as well to access the Bible readings for each theme.
Study on LGBTQ and The United Methodist Church
Pastor Marg is holding a 4-week study on the issues facing the United Methodist Church around LGBTQ inclusion.

From the survey conducted by Just Peace and our team and from the on-going affinity group discussions, the congregation has expressed an interest in such a study. This will be done via zoom. The audio can also be accessed through phone.

We are hoping for a large group so will likely ask everyone to be on mute and raise their questions or make their comments in the chat section. Our presenter will refer to those and include as much as time allows.

Backpack Blessings
Thank you for your continued generous support of the Backpack Blessings ministry.

You have greatly blessed our neighbors and community through this ministry!
The Poland Sports Camp is ON!
Great news, Pender Family!

Our brothers and sisters in Christ in Poland have been approved to host the Xtra Sports Camp this year!  While we are saddened that we can’t be there in person to help support the team and worship with the Polish campers, we are truly excited that the camp will occur! God is good!

As most of you know, Pender has supported Zbigniew Chojnacki and Marek Glodek for several years through our Faith Promise giving as well as sending teams of Pender youth for short term mission trips to Ostroda, Poland to help with the camp.

As of right now, the Polish health ministry has allowed them to host 45 campers (along with 8-10 counselors), and they remain hopeful that as the month progresses, that limit may increase.  They currently have 30 Polish campers registered in just over a week of being open, and more are coming!  Several of the campers come from families who are economically disadvantaged and struggle to pay the cost of travel in addition to the cost for the week-long camp. Every year, through your support, the Pender team has provided financial love offerings to help these Polish campers defray their expenses so they can come, play sports and most importantly hear the Gospel every day and worship His name every evening at chapel.

It costs US$210 for each camper for the week.  Please prayerfully consider if you can help support sending a Polish camper fully or even in part this year.  Every portion helps!  (Luke 21: 1-4)

When you give, please mark “Poland Sports Camp” either online, or on your check memo line, so we can make sure it gets to the right place.

Due to the complexity of wiring funds to Poland, especially to make sure they have the funds to help any Polish camper get to camp,  the deadline is this Sunday, June 14 th .

If you have any questions or need more information, please let me know!  I can be reached at  paj_h@yahoo.com or (703) 378-9271. Thank you so much in advance!

God bless,
Tony Hines
Pender Facebook Groups
We are trying to compile all of the Pender-related Facebook groups that currently exist. Since these are affiliated with Pender, the staff and SPPRC need to be aware of them.

Also, according to good church communications practices, all groups associated with Pender should be listed on the Pender Facebook page.  This helps show people looking for a church home that Pender is an active church supporting its various interests, missions and ministries.

As of today, these are the known groups, both private and public. There may be secret unlisted groups as well:

Pender Village

Pender UMW

PUMW Susanna Circle

Pender UMC Youth Music Ministry

Pender UMC Sanctuary Choir

Pender UMC Handbell Ringers

Pender Rocks!

Friends Who Like Pender United Methodist Church (This is administered by a person no longer in the area.)

(Another one) Friends Who Like Pender United Methodist Church (This is also administered by a person no longer in the area.)

Pender United Methodist Church (Public Group)

If you know of another group not listed here, please email webmaster@penderumc.org.

A Poem by Saundra Sandrock
"To the Class of 2020"
Although your Senior Sunday
Is unlike the ones before,
Pender wouldn't miss the chance
To let pride and love outpour!

Each of you has accomplished
A milestone of achievement.
Not even a pandemic
Could rob you of completement.

If you could also receive
A spiritual accolade,
It would be from God himself
Who's proud of you, whom He made.

Enjoy your special Sunday.
We celebrate your success.
May the path you take ahead
Bring fulfilling happiness.
You are encouraged to stay current on your giving and, if possible, give extra to help compensate for those who are facing financial hardship.
