Parish Announcements

Adult Forum - Author Todd Green
This week, we will hear from Todd Green regarding Islamophobia in the context of Western culture. Tracing the medieval legacy of religious polemics and violence, Green orients us to the complex history and issues in Western relations to Islam, from early and late modern colonial enterprises and theories of "Orientalism" to the production of religious discourses of otherness. Our friends from the Islamic Community Center of Potomac have been invited to join us. Todd's books will be available for purchase.

FOYER DINNERS
Foyer dinners, led by Brooke Anthony, begin meeting next month. The dinners will be held one weekend evening per month. Groups will meet at the home of a group member or the group can meet at a restaurant. It is a wonderful way for new families to get to know members of the congregation. The sign up sheet is on the Sign Up board in the Parish Hall. Please sign up now through Sunday, October 2.

Ushers and Chalice Bearers Needed!
Please let Amma Cricket or John Harbeson know if you are willing to serve on Sunday mornings in these important ministries. Ushers welcome people, help them find a seat, count the number of attendees, take up the collection, and help guide people to communion.
Chalice bearers assist at communion by serving the chalices to those at the altar after they've received the bread from the priest. Both ministries are essential to Redeemer hospitality. Please consider volunteering for one or two Sundays a month.

Contemplative Mondays Resume
The Contemplative Group will meet Monday, September 26, in St. Luke's Chapel at Redeemer from  7:30 to 9 p.m. for prayer and meditation.

Oak View Tutoring Ministry
The well-received and valuable tutoring ministry at Oak View Elementary School in Silver Spring begins again in early October. If you are interested in joining this ministry that truly changes lives, please sign up on the Outreach Board.

COFFEE HOUR
A new sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the parish hall. You are invited to volunteer, along with one to three of your Redeemer friends, for a 'month of Sundays'. This new schedule begins in October.  Also, please note that a simplified menu of donuts and veggies is requested, but not required.  Chrissy deFontenay, Huda Kraske, and Marcia Sartwell are the pioneers for October and November. Please join them or pick a spot in an upcoming month.  Thank you for showing hospitality to angels!

Online Ministry Volunteers Needed
Each week the entire 10:30 a.m. service is uploaded to our website.  It is being accessed by members of the parish who are traveling or ill or homebound. We're also being listened to by folks in other countries! If you are computer savvy and have a couple of hours to spare once or twice a month, please sign up on the Outreach Board or contact Erik Devereux ([email protected]).

REDEEMER BOOK GROUP
The book selected is The Hare with Amber Eyes by Edmund de Waal. The meeting to discuss the book will take place on Sunday, October 2 at 3 pm at the home of Huda and Jochen Kraske, 4550 North Park Avenue, Apt. 410, Chevy Chase, Md. 20815.  Any questions, pls contact Huda Kraske at 301 656 2087 or at [email protected] .  All are welcome.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS
Bring your furry or feathered friends to the Labryrinth on October 2nd at 2 pm.
We will give thanks for our pets current and past and bless the ones we bring. Hope to see lots of our animal friends this day - stuffed ones included!

TAIZÉ SERVICES BEGIN OCTOBER 3
On Monday, October 3, our regular services in the style of the Taizé Community will begin.  The services are held at 7.30 p.m. on the first Monday of every month from October - June, and include Taizé chant led by our own musical ensemble, scripture, meditation and healing.

SPECIAL MUSIC FOR ALL SOULS
This year we will be holding our Commemoration of All Faithful Departed (All Souls) on Sunday, November 6 at 5:00 p.m.  The Redeemer Adult Choir is preparing the exceptionally beautiful Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen to sing as part of the service.  Please plan on joining us for this moving liturgy.
