This Week at Saint Andrew's

Welcome to our newsletter.

We hope this information keeps you connected to our church family.

Upcoming Services

Thursday, September 26, 2024, 6:00 p.m.

Evening Prayer

  • Join us for Evening Prayer. The service will be available through Facebook Live at the St. Andrew's Facebook page at 6:00 p.m. Daily Evening Prayer, Rite Two, may be accessed here. The readings for this evening may be accessed here.

Sunday, September 29, 2024, 8:00 & 10:00 a.m.: The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost

  • Join us for Holy Eucharist. The service will be available through Facebook Live at the St. Andrew's Facebook page at 10:00 a.m. The service bulletin may be accessed here or by clicking the image of the cover.
  • Sunday School for children ages 4-12 meets during the 10:00 a.m. service. Infant and toddler care are also provided.

Climate Connections: As a way to reduce paper consumption, please consider downloading the bulletin and reading it on your device during the service.

We will be printing fewer bulletins in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint. We realize that using a device to read the bulletin may be a daunting task, but we have several congregants who are ready to help if you need it. If we are able to purchase less paper over time, we will donate the savings to our outreach efforts. If you don’t have a device to use, but are willing to share a bulletin with your neighbor, that helps us reach our goal too.

Sunday School News

Expert day care for infants and children 3 yrs old and younger during the 10 a.m. service will be provided by Samira Sameni, a preschool teacher at our Saint Andrew’s Children’s Center. Drop-off will be in the courtyard of the Children’s Center.

Sunday School for children 4 yrs and up will be taught by Tammy Smecker-Hane, and drop off will be in the courtyard of the Children’s Center. During the month of September, we have been learning about the Old Testament hero, Joseph, and Sunday we’ll conclude the story. Joseph’s brothers demonstrate that they are very sorry for selling Joseph into slavery, and when they come back to Egypt with his brother Benjamin in order to buy more grain, Joseph forgives his brothers and finally reveals to them who he is. Their father Jacob then comes to Egypt and is finally reunited with his long-lost son, and the entire family decides to remains with Joseph in Egypt. If you have any questions about Sunday School, please email Tammy Smecker-Hane.

OC Pride Festival - October 5

On behalf of Gathering LGBTQ+ Episcopalians in Active Ministry (GLEAM- OC), we would like to invite you to join us at the OC Pride Festival on October 5th at the OC Fair and Event Center. This event is a wonderful opportunity to provide outreach and pastoral care to LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies. Many members of the LGBTQ+ community have been rejected by their religious and spiritual homes and have received a distorted version of the gospel. The Pride festival is an opportunity for us to provide healing ministry to those seeking support and solace. While we will also have lay volunteers at the booth, many visitors benefit from talking to and praying with a clergy member.

If you are interested in this pastoral opportunity, please access the website by clicking here.

There are hour-long shifts available from 12-6 pm. You can also march in the parade with us, step off is at 11 am. Attached are flyers of the parade route and the festival. We will be located in the Interfaith Zone.

If you have anyone in your parish or know of anyone interested in assisting us, they may sign up using this website.

I hope to have a flyer to you to place in your communications to your parish by the end of the week, this flyer will provide additional information.

You may provide my email address, rev.steve@trinityorange.org to all those who might be interested, have questions or concerns.

Pray for Peace in the Holy Land

The Rt. Rev. John Harvey Taylor asks us to pray for peace and keep in our hearts the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and its archbishop, the Rt. Rev. Hosam Naoum. Bishop Taylor has written to him on our diocese’s behalf and invites us to make a gift to the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, which supports the Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City. Archbishop Naoum calls on all to unite in prayer for reconciliation.
