Tourist in Our Hometown

Our first Tourist in Our Hometown Event will be on Saturday, September 28. We will be going to the Great Circle Earthworks in Heath (near Newark).

The Great Circle Earthworks are part of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks. These were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site last fall and are the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Ohio.

We will meet at Saint Mark’s at 12:30 in order to get to Heath in time to buy tickets for the regularly scheduled 2 p.m. tour of the Great Circle Earthwork.

The tour is a 45-minute walking tour of the earthwork. Note that there are no paved paths in the earthwork, so bring good walking shoes and some water.

After the tour we will explore the Earthworks Museum.

The cost of the tour is $10 for ages 12 and up; $5 for children ages 5 – 11; and free for children under 5 and members of the Ohio History Connection.

Adult Formation

Adult formation has begun and will meet at 9:30 on Sunday mornings in the parish hall and will begin looking at Christianity After Constantine in September and October. We will not meet October 6 because of the pet blessing that day.

Children's Formation

Children’s Formation begins at 10:30 in the children’s formation area. Children from age 4 through 1st grade participate in the Godly Play program. Children from grade 2 through 5 participate in the Children’s Chapel program. All children return to the service around the time of the peace.

On the first Sunday of the month, there is no Children’s Formation Program, children are in church for the whole service on those days.

Pet Blessing

Saint Mark’s will be blessing pets in remembrance of St. Francis on Sunday, October 6. Don’t miss two opportunities to acknowledge the special relationship you have with your pet.

The first is a St. Mark’s tradition. Bring your pet with you to either the 8 or 10:30 service on Sunday October 6. You can bring your stuffed pets too. You can also bring pictures of your pets, either those who won’t do well worshipping in person or those who are no longer with us, who you would like to have remembered.

The second is for pets who are not well suited to attending an entire worship service. Pastor Vicki will be on the front lawn of the church from 9:15 to 10:15 Sunday October 6. You can drop by with your pet for a blessing. We will be publicizing this in the community too, so be sure to invite your friends to bring their pets by for a blessing.

Youth Group

Youth group will meet on Sunday, October 6 after the 10:30 service. Lunch will be provided. We will be looking at the schedule for the year, talking about fundraising, creating some social media content and probably playing some hide and seek. The meeting will end at 1:30 p.m.

History Speaks at Saint Mark's

Come Sing With Us

Canterbury Choir

Do you know a child who likes to sing? A new season for the Canterbury Choir begins in September, and the choir is looking for new members! Open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14, the Canterbury Choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday afternoons and sings for the 10:30 a.m. service on the first Sunday of every month, from September to May.

Participation in the choir offers an excellent opportunity for children to learn not only about the basics of singing and music theory but also about the Episcopal faith and its liturgy. The choir is open to all members of the community, regardless of religious affiliation, and there is no cost to participate. No musical background is required.

Saint Mark’s Choir Seeks New Members

The choir is open to adults and high school–age singers who are able to make a regular commitment on Thursday nights and Sunday mornings. Singers of all voice parts are welcome. Some previous experience with choral singing and sight reading is recommended.
