Adult Formation

During Lent the Adult Formation program will be exploring the Book of Acts. We will look at chunks of the book each Sunday and talk about the earliest days of the Church.

Adult Formation meets in the parish hall on Sunday from 9:30 to 10:15

The outline of what we will be exploring is:

March 9: Acts 1:1 – 5:11

March 16: Acts 5:12 – 8:25

March 23: Acts 8:26 – 11:18

March 30: Acts 11:19 – 14:28

April 6: Acts 15:1 – 28:31

There will be no adult formation on April 13, 20 or 26

The Great Litany

The 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday will begin with the Great Litany chanted as the choir and clergy process around the nave.

The Great Litany is the first piece of liturgy published in English. It was published in 1544 and has been used and updated since then.

It is the custom of many congregations to use the Great Litany on the first Sunday in Lent. At Saint Mark's it is our custom to chant it.

AGO Student Recital

The American Guild of Organists is having a student recital at Saint Mark’s on Sunday March 23 at 4 p.m.

Come and hear some of the up and coming organists in our area.

A reception will follow the recital.

Helping Others in Lent

Helping others is a big part of Lent. This year we are collecting personal care items. We will be doing two things with these products. We will be making Grooming Bags for mothers in Vinton County through our partnership with Help Me Grow. We will also be donating them to NNEMAP where they are always in need.

There is a sheet with reflections for each week that leads to a donation each week on the arched bookcase in the parish hall. Or there are two ways that you can help:

Donate $20, which is the cost of filling one grooming bag.

Bring any of the following to church during Lent (please bring full size items).

Shampoo

Conditioner

Body Wash

Hand Soap

Toothbrush

Toothpaste

Deodorant

Disposable Razors

Confirmation

Confirmation is confirming the promises made on your behalf at baptism and confirming your desire to be a part of the Episcopal Church for this part of your Christian journey. Youth aged 14 and up and adults who have not been confirmed in the Episcopal Church, the Roman Catholic Church or the Evangelical Lutheran Church in American are confirmed in the Episcopal Church.

Reception is when an adult who has been confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church or the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America becomes a part of the Episcopal Church. The Bishop receives these people into the Episcopal Church.

Reaffirmation is when someone who has been confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church wants to formally reaffirm their commitment to being a part of the Episcopal Church.

The preparation for all three is the same.

Bishop White is coming to visit Saint Mark’s on May 18, 2025 and will be Confirming, Receiving and Reaffirming the faith of interested people at the 10:30 a.m. service that day.

Here is what you need to do.

  1. Watch each of the videos on the confirmation page of the Saint Mark’s website (saintmarkscolumbus.org/confirmation) and fill out the form on that page.
  2. Attend the in-person classes on Sunday, March 30 and Sunday, April 27 from 12:30 – 1:30 pm

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Pastor Vicki at rector@saintmarkscolumbus.org or 614-486-9452.
