This Week's Newsletter
April 7, 2021
Dear Saxe Gotha Church Family,

Our staff did an incredible job preparing and leading us through a meaningful and inspiring Holy Week. The countless hours of preparation and hard work blessed us with services that deepened relationship with the Lord as we focused on his death and resurrection. Our redemption is truly a work of God’s love and amazing grace!

One our charter members, Sheila Warner, wrote these kind words:
"I just wanted to tell all of you how wonderful it was to be in church for Holy Week and for today on Easter Sunday. All of the services were wonderful, and I feel so blessed being able to participate somewhat in a couple of them. I especially want to thank Lonnie and Moses and everyone that works with them for the wonderful job y’all have done this whole year with live streaming and virtual this and virtual that. All of the sermons have been so meaningful throughout the year.

After being at Saxe Gotha from the beginning in 1982, I have to say this was one of the best Holy Weeks and Easter Sundays. I know that is partly because it has been such a trying year for everyone. For me, who is a strong believer that in-person corporate worship is very important, this week has brought special meaning."

Friends, it was truly a blessing to worship with you during this past week. Jesus is alive! He is risen! Let’s live out our resurrection hope that we have in Christ by sharing this wonderful news in those places in which he has placed us!

In Christ’s love,
Pastor Jim

Sunday School Classes - In Person and Online Options
Sunday School In-Person Plans:
Please know that the chairs in your classroom will be spread 6 feet apart and everyone will be required to wear a mask indoors. Outdoors social distancing is required, but masks are optional.  Please also remember that the coffee machines and the water fountains will not be available. Finally, because we are still livestreaming both the 8:30 am and 11:00 am services, Lonnie and his AV team are unavailable to help any Sunday school classes with technical issues. Again, I appreciate your patience and flexibility with this new configuration of our Sunday school classes. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly at [email protected].
Classes will not be held this evening due to Spring Break.
Wednesday classes for adults have resumed from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. We offer three classes:

·  The Reason for God: Conversations on Faith and Life - This 6-week class will dig into the objections of the Christian faith to learn about both sides of the issues. Chuck Stoudemire will lead this class and teach some basics of apologetics. They will meet in room 154 MB. ([email protected]) Study guide $9.00.
·  The Ten Commandments: Are They Still Relevant? - Join this casual conversation facilitated by Jenni Gannon. They will meet in 155 MB. Each week a separate topic will be covered. Feel free to jump in at any point and if you miss a class, you can come back and pick up with the commandment being studied that week. ([email protected])
·  Holy Conversations: Talking About God in Everyday Life - This interactive class will help us learn to engage in comfortable conversation about the good news of Jesus with those around us. Taught by Helen Harrison Ham and Pete Eckert and will meet in the Library/152 MB. ([email protected]) Book $14.00.

For everyone’s safety, we will continue to wear masks inside the buildings and maintain the safe social distance of six feet. If you have any questions or would like more information about how to grow deeper in your faith in 2021 or the above classes, please contact [email protected] or 803-359-7770.

Since 1975, more than 600,000 people from more than 13,000 congregations and other organizations have been trained as Stephen Ministers.
Kids Programming will not be held during the week this week due to Spring Break. Also, Sunday evening activities are cancelled for April 11, except for those recording the choir song.
Next Gen Family Day on
Saturday, April 17
from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm!
Next Generation Family Day is going to be a perfect time for families to draw closer together for fun and fellowship. On April 17, we'll kick off the morning at 10:00 am with the Next Gen Amazing Race! Each family will be a team in this scavenger hunt around Lexington. Starting at the church, you’ll follow the clues to lead you through town for a morning of family fun. Then, at 12:00, we’ll all meet back at the church for a boxed-lunch picnic and parking lot party. We’ll have music, food and much more to give your family an opportunity for some quality time together and with our church family.
Family Evening VBS:
June 28 - July 1, Evenings, Monday – Thursday, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. (Families with Rising 3’s – Rising 6th Graders) COST: FREE. Welcome to Wilderness Escape—an exciting journey with God’s people, the Israelites, that brings God’s Word to life for kids! Our SGPC Vacation Bible School is always a great time for children to learn about God’s word through terrific music; fun, hands-on activities; creative, multi-sensory experiences; and energetic large group ensemble led by our youth praise band and adult “characters” who dramatically tell about the VBS Biblical theme to Trust God. VBS is a free experience that’s open to the community. For questions, to volunteer or to register by phone call Melinda Boyle at 359-7770, ext. 64 or email [email protected].

Lexington School District One Backpack Program

Saxe Gotha will be partnering with Lexington School District One to support the Backpack Program. As a partner, we will help fill backpacks and send them to schools for weekly distribution to children who have great need.

Food items should be left in the Narthex, Atrium (when the church re-opens) or outside of the main office in the box labeled "backpack ministry." Monetary donations can be made to SGPC with “backpack ministry” in the memo line.
Current Sermon Series: Characters
Characters gives us a glimpse into the lives of people of faith. During the next year, we will be challenged as we dig deeper into the context and setting of each person’s life – gaining new insights into the world in which they lived and connecting their world with ours. Along the way, truths that impact our lives today will be discovered as we see the challenges, struggles and opportunities faced by people seeking to follow God. In many of these stories, we will find ourselves and our need for a Savior. We pray that through these studies, we will be transformed and better equipped to fulfill God’s purposes in our world today.
Moms in Ministry
Saxe Gotha has a new group just for Moms...we will connect you with other moms (with kids under the age of 21) who are going through the same challenges you face. This is a place to share your concerns, be encouraged by God's Word, and enjoy fellowship with moms.

Please like and follow this group on Facebook at SG Moms in Ministry or on Instagram.
