Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ,

So that the next generation would know …. (Psalm 78:6).

If you are looking for a great movie to watch during this time of social distancing, you may want to consider one my favorites, Mr. Holland’s Opus. This movie tells the tale of a man named Glenn Holland who teaches music at a high school over a career spanning three decades. Because of budget cuts, he is forced to retire at the age of 60. The climax of the movie occurs when his former students gather and conduct a final concert honoring his career and retirement. One of the students says, “We are your symphony Mr. Holland. We are the melodies and the notes of your opus. We are the music of your life.”

On Sunday, June 7, as we reopen our facility for in-person worship, we will recognize our high school graduates at the 8:30 am Traditional Service. These young people are the "symphony" of Saxe Gotha – they are the legacy of our ministry together. They are the culmination of years of spiritual nurture and development through the investments and sacrifices of parents, families and our congregation. They are our opus!

Please know that our Next Generation Ministry Team continues to build this “symphony,” even as we negotiate through a pandemic. One way we will do this is through our Vacation Bible School program which will take in a different form this year because it will be done in the context of your own neighborhood. You can bring the VBS experience into your home virtually or choose to be a host family for the children that live around you. This year’s theme is “Concrete and Cranes: Building on the Love of Jesus” based on Philippians 1:6. All you need to do is pick-up your “tool box” at the church and tune in each day via the Saxe Gotha YouTube Channel for each day’s fun activities and lessons. This will all take place during the week of June 22-26. You can register here

Let’s continue to invest in the next generation so that our children and students learn to walk with the Lord!
 In Christ's love,
Pastor Jim
Church Re-Opening Plans: Sunday, June 7
Session approved in-person worship beginning on Sunday, June 7. There will be 2 services: 8:30 am Traditional in the Sanctuary and 11:00 am AWE (Contemporary) in the Light House. This arrangement will allow us to use the facility once a week, since it would be impossible to sanitize the Sanctuary and AWE Auditorium for a subsequent service. Our graduates will be presented to the congregation during the 8:30 am worship service on June 7.

To keep participants safe, social distancing, masks and use of hand sanitizer will be required. The pews and chairs will be staggered and set-up for social distancing, and family units will be asked to sit together. To keep everyone safe, we will not be offering nursery or children’s church.
Surviving to Thriving During Quarantine Webinar:
COVID-19 has not only affected people physically, but also mentally and emotionally. Please join HH and Patrick for a webinar with Paul Bishop, a licensed counselor, to learn more about how we cannot just survive, but thrive mentally and emotionally during this tough time.

All of us are experiencing stress that we have never experienced before; therefore, we would like to offer this counseling opportunity to all and hope this event begins to take away the stigma of reaching out for counseling help. This webinar is now available: https://youtu.be/K57u5-cVLmo .

Paul Bishop is the Counseling & Missions Pastor at First Baptist of Lexington and oversees the Bridge of Hope Counseling Center. He graduated from Columbia International University with a Masters’ Degree in Intercultural Studies in 1998 and a Masters in Counseling in 2001.

We look forward to gathering together virtually for a time of support and fellowship.
