Introducing Our New Seminarian
|
Dear friends,
It is my great delight to share the good news that once again this year St. Dunstan's will be blessed by the presence and ministry of a student from the Virginia Theological Seminary. Please meet Melissa Carnall Fauci!
| |
|
Melissa (right) and her family come to us from New Orleans in the Diocese of Louisiana. Melissa received her MDiv from Catholic Theological Union in 2015. She ministered as a Pastoral Associate in a Catholic parish in Chicago before moving to New Orleans where she became a hospital chaplain and...Episcopalian! After many years of hospital chaplaincy, Melissa is excited to pursue another aspect of her vocation, the call to priesthood. Melissa met her wife, Megan, in New Orleans, where Megan was a 3rd and 4th grade teacher. After getting married in 2022, they welcomed their daughter, Lina, in 2023. Walter and Sammy are their beloved dogs.
I hope that you will plan to join us this Sunday, September 8, as we welcome Melissa, Megan, and Lina to this community! Please also join me in thanking the faithful members of St. Dunstan's Lay Support Team, who will walk and pray with Melissa through the year ahead: Lynne Adduci Leonard (Convener), Chuck Cash, Nancy Douglas, and Carmen Petruzzi.
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow!
Yours faithfully and joyfully,

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. ~ Hebrews 13:2

The St. Dunstan’s Refugee Ministry has created a Sign-up Genius to make donations of household items and/or money to support the Afghan family that will be relocating to Bethesda!
Here’s the link (click button):
| |
|
Making donations is simple! Here are the steps:
- Mark the items or $$ you can donate using Sign-up Genius.
-
Wait to be contacted by Fred Bentley (fbentley14@gmail.com) or someone else from the Refugee Ministry to coordinate on a pick-up/drop-off.
PLEASE NOTE: The State Department has not yet let Syed, Elyas, and Erfan know when their family will be arriving. Also, St. Dunstan’s doesn’t have extra space to store items until the family arrives. So, please be patient with us as we coordinate with you on pick-up /drop-off!

An Opportunity to Serve:
Revamping "Tea, Tech, and
Board Games"
| |
|
Last year Elisabeth Saidi and Marsha Barnes introduced an innovative new community-building ministry they called "Tea, Tech, and Board Games." The premise was simple: Parishioners (of all ages) and members of the local community were invited to come share a cup of tea and play board games or get tech help from local young people. Eventually other activities were added, such as knitting, crafts, singing, and even Irish dance!
Now "Tea, Tech, and Board Games" is evolving to focus more on intergenerational discussion, and we are looking for a couple of people to take charge of this ministry and discuss potential changes. (Elisabeth will still advertise each event and recruit students.)
Might God be calling you to help? If you are interested in being involved, please contact Elisabeth or The Rector at your earliest convenience...We're eager to get going again this fall!

St. Dunstan’s Second Annual Online Auction
|
Once again this year, St. Dunstan’s is holding a fall online auction fundraiser! Proceeds will support our parish ministries and community outreach.
For this to be successful, we’ll need EVERYONE’S involvement, including children! The auction will only work if there are donations that our parishioners and members of the broader community want to bid on – things that are fun or particularly helpful.
Some examples might include:
- A gift card from your favorite restaurant
- A gift card for a spa day
- Tickets to a concert or theater performance
- Tickets to a sporting event
- A theme dinner (maybe Italian or French) for six
- An hour with a personal trainer
- Babysitting so parents can have a date night
- A couple of hours of leaf raking
- Dog walking
- Car washing
- An event you are passionate about and would like to share with others, like a cooking demonstration, an art activity, a walk in nature teaching about mushrooms...
Please note that no material things will be accepted. These are just some ideas – please think about what you or your family might offer and fill out the form with your donation.
Watch the newsletter for more information on how to submit your donation proposal. Thank you for joining in!
If you have questions, please contact Parish Administrator Elisabeth Saidi at admin@stdunstansbethesda.org.
