Dear Parishioners and Friends,
After two weeks in the Holy Land, it feels good to be home, though we weren’t feeling too homesick while reading reports of -20 degree weather here in New York and throughout the country. Each morning during our sojourn, one of the bishops would lead us in prayer, and another would provide a meditation on the difference between a tourist and a pilgrim. This was a helpful way to get into the right frame of mind as we began our journey for the day. One thing that I remember was that the bishop said, “a tourist comes to consume; a pilgrim comes to be consumed.” During the pilgrimage itself, it was sometimes difficult to know which mode I was in. Am I a tourist or a pilgrim? Sometimes, especially in the crowded streets teeming with souvenir shops, it was difficult to feel truly present. However, the Spirit was at work in and through us, and I can say that I have returned with a changed outlook, and a deepened faith. The scriptures now take on a new depth and vivid color that I had not known before. My sense of God’s yearning for us to love one another as he loves us has been heightened. A pilgrim returns home changed for the better. The heart, soul, and mind are expanded.
Whether you have been to the Holy Land before or not, I hope that you will consider joining me and your St. Mary’s family early next year as I lead a pilgrimage to that place of ancient sanctity and modern complexity. Your life and your faith will be changed as you encounter Christ and the story of salvation in the very streets and sites where it all happened. More information will be forthcoming shortly.
Blessings,
Father Rick

It is with sadness that I announce the death of
Gretel Bush
, 93, beloved wife of Harrison O. Bush, Jr. of Sloatsburg, who passed away peacefully in hospice on Wednesday, January 30th, after many months of declining health.
Her funeral will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Suffern at 10am on Saturday, February 9th. May Gretel's soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
Fr. Robÿn

At our recent Annual Meeting, we discussed the fact that many aspects of parish life are overseen by committees that have ceased to function in recent years. Several folks have stepped up to help reinvigorate these committees and meetings have been scheduled; they will take place in the church office conference room. Please join us if you're interested in helping with any of the following:
- Buildings & Grounds Committee, Friday, February 8, 10am
- Preschool Committee, Friday, February 8, 12 noon
- Outreach Committee, Sunday, February 17, 11am

Over the past year, we've realized that our various lists of parishioners and friends at St. Mary's are not up to date. It is very important that we have the most accurate contact information for you (especially emails and mobile phone numbers), because we want to be sure we can reach you in times of need, but also to make sure you receive proper invites to parish events! Please take a moment to update your contact information for our parish directory and rest assured that we will never release personal information to any outside organization.
