Dear Parishioners and Friends,
On Wednesday of this week the Church celebrated the feast of St. Martin of Tours. Born around 330 in Hungary, he has become one of the most venerated saints, especially in France.
Martin’s career began as a soldier in the Roman army. According to pious legend, while still a catechumen, Martin was approached by a poor man begging alms in the name of Christ. Moved to pity, Martin cut his military cloak in two and gave him half. Later, it is said that Jesus appeared to Martin in a vision wearing half of a cloak and said, “Martin, a simple catechumen, covered me with this garment.” Interestingly, Martin’s legacy influenced the the English language with the words “chaplain,” which comes from the Latin “cappellani,” the term for priests who served in the army, and “chapel,” which comes from the Latin term “capella,” or “little cloak.”
After his baptism, Martin gave up the army and became a hermit. He was elected Bishop of Tours in 372, but only on the condition that he could continue his life of strict asceticism. Throughout his life, he was an ardent missionary to the pagan people, and always a defender of the poor.
May we, like St. Martin of Tours, have eyes to see Christ in all whom we meet.

November is Stewardship Month |
November is stewardship month at St. Mary's, a time when we give thanks for the for the time, talent, and treasure that our members give to support the work of the Church here in Tuxedo, and we ask everyone to consider becoming a member and making their pledge for the coming year. Please see Father Rick's video message with more information and share what St. Mary's means to you with our "Why I Love St. Mary's" survey. And most importantly, please become a member and make your pledge for 2021. On Sunday, November 22, we will celebrate the harvest and gather in all of your gifts to bless for the coming year.

Our parish made a donation to the Episcopal Charities Virtual Tribute Dinner: “Responding to the Call” and as a result they are pleased to extend an invitation to have our entire parish join them for this year’s annual Tribute Dinner. The event will be held virtually this year as a result of the pandemic which makes it easy for supporters across the Diocese to participate, and we hope to have a large contingency from our parish participate.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, November 19, at 8 PM and will run for 60 minutes. The event will feature a number of the outreach programs that we help to support and give an insider’s view of the transformative work that is taking place even during the pandemic. Plus, there will be musical performances and appearances by some special guests, including the Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Michael B. Curry; Deborah Roberts and Al Roker; Gina Belafonte, and more! So, reserve that time slot on your calendar and visit ecny.charity/dinner to join the event at that time.

Pam Cromey Garden is Dedicated |
Many thanks to everyone who helped plant and dedicate the Pam Cromey Memorial Garden last Saturday. It was a fitting tribute to a wonderful lady! The garden was given in loving memory of Pam and all those in our community who lost their lives to Covid.
The rose garden surrounds the church sign and dogwood tree which were previously given in memory of Phil Swirbul. A memorial allée of dogwood trees is being established along the approach to St. Mary's, and a second tree has been planted in Pam's memory.

Richard Heil Pinney, 78, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2020 in New York. Richard loved spending time with his wife, Donna, of 36 years, their children, and his children from his first marriage. He is survived by his wife and a large extended family.
While his primary residence was in Manhattan, most weekends and holidays were spent with his wife and family at their home in Tuxedo Park, where they hosted many memorable gatherings of their family and friends over the years. A private burial service will be held at St. Mary's due to the current health crisis.
May Richard's soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace. Amen.

A sanctuary lamp has been hung in the church directly above the tabernacle, where the Blessed Sacrament is kept in reserve. The perpetual light of the lamp reminds us that Jesus is sacramentally present, and calls us to greater reverence for his Body as well as to prayer in his presence.
The glass vigil candles that fit inside the lamp can be given in memory of a loved one, as a petition for some need, or in thanksgiving for answered prayer. Each light burns for an entire week, and the cost is $20. With your donation, please leave a note describing your prayer's intention as well as the week you would like the light to burn.
