Dear Parishioners and Friends,
I am very pleased to be attending the tenth annual conference of the
Society of Catholic Priests
in New York City this week. I have been a part of this group since its beginnings here in the US. The society aims to promote priestly spirituality and catholic evangelism. It came to us from the Church of England, where the term "Catholic" is a broad reference to one's piety as opposed to the name of a particular denomination.
The Society exists in various parts of the Anglican Communion, and the North American Province includes the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada. The Society has grown steadily over the past decade, and it will be a joy to reconnect with brother and sister priests from across the country.
This year, our theme is "Baptismal Ecclesiology," and we have three top-notch presenters lined up: The Rev. Dr. Lizette Larson-Miller, an esteemed professor of liturgics at Huron University College in Ontario, Canada; The Rt. Rev. Dr. J. Neil Alexander, dean of the school of theology at the University of the South, and sometime Bishop of Atlanta; and the Rev. Dr. Maxwell Johnson, a Methodist pastor and professor of liturgics at Notre Dame University.
Our time together will include not only study and discussion, but also ample opportunities for worship at St. Thomas', Fifth Ave., and St. Mary the Virgin, Times Square. Please pray for all who are traveling to the conference, and that the Holy Spirit will fill us with God's grace. I look forward to this time of collegiality and vocational refreshment, and to returning to St. Mary's with fresh insights for mission and ministry.

Blessing of the Animals October 7th
|
In a longstanding Anglican tradition, pets are always welcome in church, but especially on St. Francis Day!
On Sunday, October 7th, we will have a special blessing of the animals at both services, so please bring your furry, feathery, and scaly friends that day. If your pets don't travel well, or you'd like to remember pets who have passed, please bring a photo.
During the 10am service, we will celebrate the life and witness of St. Francis with special readings and prayers led by the children of the parish, as well as with seasonal music by the choir. Pets will come up for individual blessings at the chancel steps, and "treats" will be on hand for one and all at coffee hour.

Bishop's Visitation October 14th
|
On October 14, 1888, the Bishop of New York dedicated this church to the glory of God and for the spreading of His gospel for all time. On Sunday, October 14, 2018, we will welcome Bishop Mary Glasspool back to St. Mary's for her official episcopal visitation. Bishop Mary will preside and preach at both services. After the 10am service, we will have a festive coffee hour to celebrate and the bishop will meet with the vestry at 11:30am. Please join us for this special occasion and give Bishop Mary a real St. Mary's welcome.

November at St. Mary's-in-Tuxedo
|
Fall is a particularly busy time at St. Mary's-in-Tuxedo. In addition to all of the events in this newsletter, we have four baptisms and two weddings planned. Please plan on joining your parish family on these important dates:
- November 11 - Remembrance Sunday - remembering all those who have served
- November 18 - Harvest Thanksgiving for all the blessings of this life, including stewardship ingathering
- November 22 - Thanksgiving Day at St. John's in Arden

Window Restoration Begins

After several days of preparation, Femenella & Associates began the removal of the Andrae memorial window (by Lamb Studios) from the north transept of the church. Please visit our Facebook page for

We are all truly grateful to the donors who made this restoration possible, and hope that their generosity will spur others to consider how they can help preserve the historic fabric of St Mary’s for generations to come.
