Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Jesus said, “Let the little children come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of heaven.”
At St. Mary’s, we love children and offer numerous ministries for them. To our youngest, we provide infant & toddler care in our Preschool building during the 10:00 Sunday service. For kindergarten and grade schoolers, we have a wonderful Sunday school program headed up by our teacher, Jenn Creamer. Older children are invited to join in the service and to serve as they are able as acolytes or readers. And last but not least, we would like to revive our Episcopal Youth Fellowship (EYF) for those aged 12 to 18.
Our Sunday morning programs are fully staffed and ready to serve our youngsters. All we need is for our youngsters to join us! We know that the schedulers of youth activities have little regard for children’s spiritual development—extra-curriculars are each just one more stepping stone to the perfect college and “success.” But we also know that spiritual development and self-sacrifice are essential components to their overall formation as loving, charitable, moral, and ethical Christian human beings.
As my budding Christmas cactus daily reminds me, the holidays are not far away. One of the beloved traditions of St. Mary’s is our children’s Christmas Eve pageant, in which they tell us the timeless and inspiring story of Christ’s Incarnation. Now is the time to start thinking about how your family will participate in this highly-esteemed service. Simply put, without you, we cannot pull it off.
The body of Christ, the Church, is in all ways an inter-generational body. It is comprised of infants, nonagenarians, and everyone in between. As St. Paul said, “One part of the body cannot say to the other, ‘I have no need of you.’” We need our young ones to show us Jesus in their own way, just as we adults are called to be examples to them of a more mature faith.

Longtime resident and friend
John S. W. Dawson
died on Sunday, October 13th, at home surrounded by family and friends. His interment will take place at St. Mary's-in-Tuxedo on Saturday, November 2nd, at 11am. A memorial service will be held at Brick Church in NYC on Thursday, November 7th, at 4pm.
May John's soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Pilgrimage -- Initial Deposits Now Due

You are cordially invited to Dinner in the Nave of St. Mary's-in-Tuxedo. The pews are removed from the historic nave of the church and a splendid dinner is served, accompanied by music and an auction of fabulous items. This year, we will be honoring Greg & Patte Stevens for a combined nine decades of service with the Rector's Distinguished Service Award. Please join us for this biennial tradition. All are welcome!

Donations Made in September:
Sloatsburg Food Pantry $1,000; Helping Hands of Rockland County $1,000; Episcopal Relief and Development for Bahamas’ Hurricane $5,050 [$2000 from outreach funds and the balance from parishioners' individual donations]; Warwick Valley Humane Society $200.
$3,200 was wired to Carryou for food parcels for the 32 destitute families we sponsor in Randfontein, South Africa. The funding was from individual donations from parishioners and non parishioners and half the profits from the Yard Sale, the other half being designated for local outreach. Apart from the food parcels this provided school clothing and shoes where needed for these families, and stipends for the six college students for three months. Edward Doyi and Sam Masebe recently graduated! A triumphant achievement considering their background is the same as the children in the attached photos. Episcopal Charities sent grant checks through St Mary's representing the second half of this year's Basic Human Needs Grants to assist in our work with Helping Hands (HH) and Sloatsburg Food Pantry (FP): $7,950 for HH and $3,500 for the FP. The EC checks go into our Outreach Account and St Mary's Outreach then sends the money on to HH and FP.
We have applied again to Episcopal Charities, Walmart and Mid-Hudson Board of Managers for grants for 2020.
Income: Yard Sale final tally: $3,547; Soup for Scholarships for St Mary’s Pre School: $1,237
We applied to ShopRite for 80 $50 gift cards with 20% discount, which we would take as extra cards. Inserra ShopRite agreed to this, as they have regularly in the past. We now have 96 gift cards at $50 for $4,000. ShopRite having donated the extra 16 cards equivalent to a monetary donation of $800! These are in hand to be given to local families as need arises.
Billy Saul: As many people know, Billy, our trusted garbage collector and very useful handyman, had a bad accident in early September which has caused him much pain, and placed him on leave from work with, currently, a classification of 100% disability. Already on a low income, doing ‘piece work’ to supplement his wages to support his family, wife, and four children, he found himself unable to meet their household bills. St Mary’s has given them financial support, directly paying some of the most critical bills, Sloatsburg Food Pantry has been generous with supplies, and we have tried to assist him reach the various government agencies available to people in this situation. He is very grateful for what St Mary’s has been doing. If anyone would like to help us, checks should be made out to St Mary’s Outreach with a memo of Billy Saul. I was with him this morning and he always asks me to tell ‘all my friends in Tuxedo Park that I miss them.’ He’s waiting for the results of an MRI but I don’t think he’ll be back working for some time to come.
