From The Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

"You crown the year with your goodness, *

and your paths overflow with plenty." Ps. 65:12 (BCP)

Last Sunday was a day of joy and many beautifully intermingled themes in both our scripture readings and our liturgy. We celebrated the Feast of Christ the King, Charles Wadsworth Robinson was baptized into the Body of Christ, and there was a very palpable sense of energy and enthusiasm in the room that all could feel!

It was also our Harvest Thanksgiving -- thank you to everyone who turned in their pledge cards on Sunday (or before), and remember that it is never too late to pledge!

This time of year, I rather feel like an NPR radio announcer during a fund drive, always interspersing everything I say with reminders of "how it is all because of your generosity." And it is! It is also part of my job to do so, and to cultivate a spirit of generosity within the parish. We focus on the needs of the coming year, as is necessary, but I would also like you to think of St. Mary's long-term wellbeing.

It has come to my attention that those of you over the age of 70 1/2 (oddly specific), can use your retirement plan to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD). This special giving opportunity allows you to transfer up to $100,000 to charity each year from your traditional IRA. The transfer is excluded from your taxable income and can count toward your required minimum distribution. Plus, you get to see the impact of your giving immediately. Contact your plan provider to find out how easy it is to give! And now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Blessings,

Fr Rick

Thanksgiving Day at St. John's in Arden

A Thanksgiving service will be celebrated at Saint John’s in Arden at 10am on Thursday, November 24. If you have never been, it is a magical little church, tucked into the woods off Arden Road in Harriman. We hope you will join us.

Directions: From the Tuxedo Park gate, turn left on Route 17 and continue north until you see the sign for Arden. Turn right, cross over the thruway, and stay to the left. Continue up the hill, and stay to the right. Pass through the open gate and continue up the hill to the clearing, where you will find the church.

Annual Outreach Thanksgiving Appeal

Thank you to everyone who helped brighten the Thanksgiving holiday for 37 local Tuxedo families (with 60 children in total). To those who donated food or funds, who shopped, sorted, packed, and delivered the baskets, we are truly grateful.

This is an important annual ministry of St. Mary's, all the more impactful this year given high inflation and the rising cost of food.

Tuxedo Park Jeep Available

The 1967 Tuxedo Park Edition Jeep that was auctioned off at our benefit dinner in October of 2021 is once again available and in need of a good home. It was recently serviced by NJV Auto in Sloatsburg and is in running condition. It will need new tires and replacement of some of the wiring. In overall very good condition with low original miles, it is a real stunner! Contact Fr. Rick for more information.

St. Mary's is now on Instagram! Search for stmtux and click "follow" for lots of great photos from our worship and special events.
