From the Rector
Dear Parishioners and Friends,

Our first winter storm of the season has the whole region looking festive in its crisp, white blanket. And how lucky we were that there were no power outages, emergencies, or accidents during the storm. Thank you to our police, fire, ambulance, and utility workers for your vigilance!

At the rectory, we spent the evening decorating the Christmas tree—it has only been up for about a week... We all felt cozy and nostalgic as we watched the snow swirl outside while listening to the old Christmas albums by artists like Bing Crosby, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, and Henry Mancini. We even had a crackling fire for the first time, well, sort of. Determined to fill the gaping fireplace with something this year, I went on eBay and found a vintage electric log set, just like Grandma had in her swinging 50’s basement rec-room/lounge. It even makes a crackling sound!

As we put the finishing touches on our home decorations and church services, it is clear that this Christmas will be unlike those of the past. Family members aren’t traveling, and many other cherished traditions will have to be put on hold. In light of this, we should all imagine the very first Christmas, in which a young family were forced to lodge in a stable in a strange city, and against all odds, the light of the world came into being. Our God is the God of creation, and so we live in hope and this Christmas, cherish his words, “Behold, I make all things new.”

Blessings,
Father Rick

Christmas at St. Mary's
Given the number of people that usually attend the family service on Christmas Eve and restrictions on using the building for multiple services on the same day, the family service will be entirely online with children participating virtually. Please go to our Facebook page at 4pm on Christmas Eve for the online event (you do not need a Facebook account to participate).

The 9pm service on Christmas Eve and the 10am service on Christmas Day will be online at Facebook and also open to in-person worship; please sign-up in advance here to attend services in-person (we want to be sure we can safely accommodate everyone).

On Christmas day, the bells of St. Mary's will ring out hourly with Christmas carols from noon to 6pm. Please feel free to come to the churchyard and sing along!

Instead of Father Rick and Pete's annual Christmas party at the rectory, please join them online for Father Rick's Christmas Special on Tuesday, December 22nd, at 8pm.
The Light of Christ
A sanctuary lamp hangs in the church directly above the tabernacle, where the Blessed Sacrament is kept in reserve. The perpetual light of the lamp reminds us that Jesus is sacramentally present, and calls us to greater reverence for his Body as well as to prayer in his presence.

The glass vigil candles that fit inside the lamp can be given in memory of a loved one, as a petition for some need, or in thanksgiving for answered prayer. Each light burns for an entire week, and the cost is $20. With your donation, please leave a note describing your prayer's intention as well as the week you would like the light to burn. You may donate online or mail a check to St. Mary's-in-Tuxedo, P.O. Box 637, Tuxedo Park, NY 10987.

Next week, the sanctuary lamp is given by Salle Sonne in memory of Chris Sonne.
Stewardship Appeal
Many thanks to parishioners Bill and Calvin who have recorded stewardship messages in recent weeks around the theme of "Why I Love St. Mary's." We remind everyone to consider becoming a member and making their pledge for the coming year. And please share what St. Mary's means to you with our "Why I Love St. Mary's" survey.
